Not really an icky question but a good one!! Female dogs will stay in heat for approximately 3 weeks. They can go into their heat cycle every 6 months or in rare occasions they have been known to cycle 3 times in one year.
Their most and only fertile time is half way through their 3 week cycle. As a dog breeder for 10 years my females only cycled 2 times a year.
If you are not planning on breeding her please get her spayed since every time she cycles it stresses her system and can lead to VERY serious health issues.
Hoped this helped/ Twinkles/vet. tech and dog/cat/horse breeder.

some women people would have a warmth each 4 months. For the main section, however, assume each 6 months. the 1st warmth, in my breed besides, does no longer often come till closer to 9 months of age or older (German Shepherds). back, in my breed we see heats lasting for roughly 2 weeks, and via this I mean the blood which you will locate on the kitchen floor. some women definitely everyone seems to be extra helpful at cleansing up than others. generally, the extra youthful bitches while first warmth are not as sparkling approximately as while they get somewhat older. so a techniques as breeding and while it may be risk-free to enable them to close to adult males, properly, i've got heard ovulating as late as 20-something days. i could shop her risk-free closer to 3 weeks after first noticing the warmth.

They basically have three weeks. A week going in, a week fully in, and a week going out. They usually have cycles every 6 months but another female dog in heat can "call" your female in.

dogs on average come in heat at 6-8 months and usually have them every 6 months or so.Just like people they do vary.
If you aren't breeding her than she really should be spayed do not leave her outside unattended unless you want pups.Even if you have a dog run or fence a male can still breed through the fencing.
