Only religion decrees that taking one`s own life is illegal or a sin.
I will and can do what I like with my own body and it`s nothing to do with religious nutters who think that a god gave me life - he didn`t - it was my mother and father.
But it is mine to do what I want with it.

Legally speaking the laws of the land are created by the people that live in the land. Every country deserves it's government. Your country decided suicide is illegal but I doubt they can tell you it's immoral. What if you're facing a slow 5 years of agonizing bone cancer before you're doomed to die. I cannot believe a merciful God would hold it against me if I took my own life. Anyone that doesn't have enough empathy for the quality of human life to admit the possibility of justifiable suicide is doomed to hell in my opinion. Their only reason against it would be because something is written somewhere, either in scriptures or church doctrine that makes them think this. It doesn't take much love to wish for people to not suffer unduly and it's the love not the law that saves the soul.

I don't know about the uk but this pisses me off in america. I used to be a proud republican when it stood for conservative government, states rights, fiscal restraint, and so on. But now we have a president how tries to over rule the people of the states to live as they choose. The voters of oragon choose assisted suicide, the voters of califonia choose medical mary-jane.
If our pathetic excuse for a president was true to his party ( rather than to his religious nut jobs) he would have said " I may not agree but if thats what the voters of that state choose, than by god, that is what they will get."
Sorry for the rant, but I'm guessing you guys have nut jobs there, too.

suicide isnt illegal... youoff yourself, and theres not a whole lot they can do, is there? failing to off yourself however seems to be a major offense if you're american... but what does one expect from a bunch of puritans. (early religious fundamentalists)
suicide is seen as the easy way out, and i suppose it is... but consider somone state of mind at the time... ive lost a few mates to this action, and in retrospect, they did it for what i consider poxy reasons. boosters wife left... hatter owed money, bogey, well he didnt wake up... sprute smacked a taxi at 80... he had no brakes on his bike... or was that just a death wish?
we seem to have forgotten how to talk to one another, to just talk about what ails us in life, it takes a great strain off someone, just to know someone else is listening, and thyre aware of whats going on.
i have a great saying; perception is based on proximity; the closer you are, the less you can see.
suicides either cant step back, or havent considered that there is any other course of action... when often their is...and its usually around a few corners...

Suicide is legal. It WAS illegal for many centuries (though i'm not sure how they enforced it; how did they punish someone once they were dead?) But it was made legal sometime in the 1960s..
God bless

IN this day and age, we care more about our animals suffering than we do human beings suffering.."Lets put our dog to sleep because he is old and has Arthritis" .It is also illegal here in the states, and I really think it should be legalized...maybe some day it will be, but until then people just have to suffer and suffer...Jack Kevorkian really has the
right idea....

I can't understand why people who are dying anyway from a terminal illness can't decide to end their life if thats what they really really want. They should have to undergo tests to verify that they are of sound mind but after that it should be their own choice

The concept of suicide as a crime is quite ancient; Self-Murder, and is linked to the Christian concept that we are subjects of god and not free agents.

suicide needs to remain a culturally unacceptable thing to do, thats why. obviously people should be compassionate to people who attempt it, but that does not mean we should give people the message that it is okay to end their lives. first of all, its a cruel message to send out. second of all, because suicide is not a crime that you commit only against yourself. it is a crime that you commit against every single person who cares about you. and last of all, because people who kill themselves are sick and can be helped, but only if they are alive to BE helped, and they won't be alive to be helped if you give them permission to kill themselves, will they?
