My daughter has very long fine blonde hair. I used a natural product which killed the actual lice but must not of killed the eggs as now i've found more little critters! Using the fine nit comb doesn't even grab the eggs as her hair is so fine. What can i use to kill the eggs? Will the eggs fall off if they are killed?

Had a friend with a boy that could not after multiple treatments and weeks of removing nits get rid of the lice. In the end they shaved his head down to a buzz cut. Which was kinda tramatic given he is going into 7th grade and had long hair. For a girl it would be even more tramatic but if you can't make it go away its always a last resort.

ah, the joys of motherhood.

faced this same predicament. you can't kill the eggs. you have to remove them. it's a tedious, backbreaking task, and sometimes you will sit for two hours or more with very long hair. I tried the natural product too and it was not very effective. there is a prescription remedy for lice, you need to ask your doctor. I believe it requires only one application, instead of two like RID or other over the counter lice treatments. bottom line is, if you don't remove all the eggs, the lice will return. lice combs only get so much, so you'll have to turn chimpanzee like I did and pick thru her hair to get them all out. Be sure to buy new brushes and the lice spray that is good for killing lice and eggs on furniture. (funny- they can make a spray that kills eggs, but not a shampoo)

anyway, good luck. It's a big pain, no matter how you do it.

Isn't it grand?! It is very important to remove all of the nits, or you will be repeating the process over and over. Check with your local pharmacist for suggestions - they may have a product or another type of comb that will help remove the nits. It is important to treat every member of the family when dealing with lice, as well as treating the entire home - use the shampoos or treatments, and check everyone thoroughly for nits. Wash all bedding, towels, and clothing in the hottest water possible, and dry everything in the dryer. Vacuum all furniture, carpets, and mattresses thoroughly. Pillows, stuffed animals, cushions, etc. should be placed in plastic bags and sealed shut for two weeks... if even a few get left behind, you will soon have a new crop. Best of luck!

All of these answers are very good. All the hairbrushes in the house need to be boiled or replaced. The best way to get rid of the eggs is taking them out by hand. Stuffed animals and anything that can't be washed or dried needs to go in a garbage bag and stored for a couple of weeks. If you don't treat every family member, there's a good chance it will come back. Wash and dry everything! Use spray on the furniture, I have even gone as far as ironing my couch, ( I ended up burning it though). You have to continue checking the hair every day for any eggs that you may have missed for about a week.

The best remedy I have found for my daughter is in a spray bottle put some water and lavender oil and tea tree oil. Just make sure that the lavender and tea tree are water soluble. Treat her hair with it first get a lice breaker comb and then every morning spray a little in her hair every morning checking every couple of days with the comb. the good thing about the lice breaker comb is that it crushes the eggs as it gets rid of them.

Check every one else thoroughly. Start looking towards the base of the skull and around the ears (their favorite spots). For short hair, they will hide where there are longer strands of hair.
Use mayo or baby oil and put a shower cap on your daughter's head for at least a few hours. Get a bright light to sit under and lots of small head bands (this way you can check more thoroughly and check in small sections).
All stuffed animals go into bags or the dryer (the little guys hate ins tense heat). Wash/ dryer all pillows, blankets, and anything made of cloth.
Keep lots of oily or hairspray or gel products in everyone Else's hair (they like clean hair) and keep checking!
Vacuum allot also.

I have been told by quite a few people ( even my doctor ) to put real mayonnaise in their hair and cover it with a shower cap or plastic bag, before bed and let the sleep on it then wash it out in the morning, the eggs and bugs should all be dead from suffocation.

The eggs will fall out when properly treated. If you are not having success, see your local pharmacist ofr a different product. Also, make sure you are treating things that your daighter came in contact with, such as sheets, stuffed toys, clothes, towels... My daighter had them and I found that often when I found more critters it was because she had reinfested herself from something in the room I had not cleaned yet.

You got to get a lice comb and you have to comb her hair two to three time a day and retreat her hair for like two week. My girls come home ever other weekend and it took me forever to get read of them. Their mother was not much help would not clean their toys or beding. So they would come back with them.
