The Liist mentioned the GLOCK 19, and rightly so. It has all the qualities you are looking for. An alternative to this is the Springfield XD9. It is safer than the GLOCK and equal to it in all the categories you emphasise. Many have found the grip angle better as well.

I carry a Glock 19. It's the compact 9mm Glock, the smaller brother of the Glock 17.

It's durable, accurate, clean trigger break, and works almost as well as a Glock 17 (which I also own)

Don't use pocket pistols, because you need easy to use sights to be able to get the flash sight picture when you're in a defense situation.

My fave 9mm compact is the CZ-PO1. They are usually somewhat less expensive than the other mainstream pistols from Glock, Sig, etc. I paid $429 for mine. It is a very accurate and reliable gun.

However, the very best thing you can do is go to a range that rents out handguns and try several different ones until you find one that you like.

Smith & Wesson M&P compact.
Much more ergonomic than the blocks or XDs. Very accurate. They're not without some problems though-rough trigger till broken in, some premature mag releases.

I have a Taurus PT-111. No problems, very reliable.
Lifetime warranty.
Due to light weight, it is a joy to carry.
I added grip decals (less than $10) from:

This greatly assisted control of recoil in such a light pistol.

Anything from Glock, Sig, or HK you are very safe with as far as a high quality piece. As far as a specific model, that is just personal preference.
