It's known that dogs with pug noses -- bulldogs, pugs, etc -- have a lot of trouble breathing, especially in hot weather. They are suffering -- and we STUPID humans did this to them. Are there any breeders attempting to breed them BACK to normal? Have we learned our lessons about breeding to EXTREMES?

actually mu pug doesn't have any trouble breathing at all....I was surprised being as I rescued her from my local shelter I thought for sure she would come w tons of health problems but she actually VERY healthy......pugs can have problems but over all are a very healthy breed, research it

I do agree w you though , a lot of things are humans fault....we want something a certain way & dont think about what the consequences might be by making it like that.....we've proved it time & time again people are stupid

Well bred dogs, are not bred to the point that they cannot breathe. Bull dogs used to be great athletes, but in the hands of bad breeders only concerned about making a profit, most have become impossible to excercise resulting in obese, unhealthy dogs.
My Boxer is a very well bred one who's nose is not squished up in excess and she does great. Even here in the Florida heat she does fine on long walks. This is just another example of why people should not buy from backyard breeders and puppy mills!!!

Well, most modern breeds have their disadvantages (Dalmations for instance are very prone to blindness, and basset Hounds will become bow legged if they have to navigate stairs) and people will continue to selectively breed to get the characteristics they want and remain oblivious to the downsides. However, pugs really don't have it that bad, it just requires more attentiveness from the owners.
