Plenty of people in the LAPD saw the actual notes. Det. John "Jigsaw John" St. John worked on the case, on and off, for over a decade, and couldn't solve it prior to retirement from the LAPD.

Here is a link to a website that her childhood friend, Mary Pacios had put up and maintains (she is now 72). She has also written a book on the subject called "Childhood Shadows: The Hidden Story of the Black Dahlia ".

The Investigation section contains a transcript of the Inquest, documents from the District Attorney's office, and an overview of suspects.

Are you referring to the murder of Elizabeth Short which occurred in 1947? Talk about your cold case........

Here's Wiki's take on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Short

Here is a web site devoted to the subject: http://blackdahlia.info/modules/news2/article.php?storyid=4/

Here's a true crime take on it: http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/famous/dahlia/index_1.html

"Elizabeth Short has been portrayed many ways in the six decades since her body was dumped in two pieces on an empty lot in Los Angeles: Manipulative playgirl. Aspiring starlet. Naïve cock tease. Troubled soul.

The Los Angeles Police Department has all but given up hope of ever closing the Dahlia case; the department has more urgent crimes to investigate, and the killer has likely been dead for years. Yet, it is precisely the unsolved status of Elizabeth Short's murder that gives it such an enduring allure."

IMHO - It's been 60 years since this unsolved crime was committed, even if someone can figure out who did it, I highly doubt they would still be alive.

Hope this helps

THe case is still open. While some have been given access to certain files, the complete case file is in the archives as an open - inactive case. Therefore, the complete file is not open to viewing.

What an interesting question! I'll be looking forward to checking the answers on this myself. I too have always been fascinated with the story and kinda felt it didn't really receive the kind of attention it deserved. I don't know know if there has ever been any kind of case that compared to this and of course, I would hope there never is. Good Question!
