sounds like to me your are feeling trapped in a situation of some sort and dont know how to get out and you dont know what to do... i do believe in dreams that fore tell the future and dreams that warn us of something. but also i believe that some dreams are just our mind working thru our fears and stresses of normal life. I dont think you need a priest as some one suggested i think you just need to sit down and think about whats bothering you and deal with it in real life so it doesnt disturb your sleep . good luck to you

I do a bit of dream stuff for my friends so I am not a expert by any means.
I always find that recurring dreams whether they are good or bad ie. nightmare happen because you are not getting the intended message from the original dream. Each time it occurs it is more emotional so you will take notice and try and figure out what it is your are suppose to do or what message you are missing.
Obviously you called it a nightmare so one of the feelings you have is fear, but dig a bit deeper and see if you can feel other things. Are there things going on in your life that bring the same type of feelings?
How do you feel about being in the dark? Are you normally afraid of the dark? Or is it that you are in a strange place that scares you? When you say you can't get out does that mean you are locked in a confining space? or a house, or room? Usually the feeling of being locked in comes from your perception of something in your life at the moment that makes you feel trapped. Is there something you can relate the trapped feeling to? Or something that is out of your control?
Ask yourself some of these questions and see if you can figure it out.
Good luck, remember nightmares can't hurt you and if you figure out what you are supposed to from it, it should go away.

I've been suffering nightmares and night terrors for about 24 years now. There are two schools of answers:
A) There is something bothering you that you have not addressed, in this case probably fear of abandoment or being alone.
B) There is an evil presences around you or someone you love and you are battling it in your sleep.
Either way, your not getting good rest until it stops, try to keep a dream journal and write in it AS SOON AS you wake up. Really wear yourself out in the day and do not eat anything solid at least 1 1/2 hours before bed, this will help you sleep DEEP and be less likely to be bothered by dreams. Also stretch before bed, NO TV or reading right before sleep, talk to your husband about your day, vent your troubles and frustrations and have a snuggle before sleep. This will help keep your mind clear before bed.
That's some of the coping techniques that work for me

It is possible that this nightmare was planted by indecision, although it would have to be one that is clouding your options or keeping you from being diligent and prudent before you commit to something.
It is more likely, however - especially if you are religious, that the darkness in this nightmare is indicative of a future without reliable guidance. A couple of things you mention point to this (a strange place in the dream, you were in a panic). I would say this lack of guidance is likely due to a hectic and full schedule w/ no time for reflection or meditation on things that would help fulfil your purpose in life, thereby causing panic attacks. Examine yourself to see if there are any changes you need to make.

Recurrent dreams/nightmares mean there is something you have to acknowledge.
Your trying to escape from something - a dark strange place -
could something from your past be that place you are escaping from mentally?
If not then your waking life is causing you to feel trapped and you feel blind about how to get out of that "place"/situation.

To dream that you are lost, suggests that you have lost your direction in life or that you have lost sight of your goals. You may be feeling worried and insecure about the path you are taking in life. Alternatively, you may be trying to adjust and get accustomed to a new situation in which the rules and conditions are ever changing. To dream that someone else is lost, represents unresolved issues or feelings regarding the person that is lost. Consider also what aspect of that person you may have lost within your own self. Perhaps you need to recapture and re-acknowledge those aspects.

If your religious I would go and see your priest, minister whatever you have just to be on the safe side. A reccuring nightmare is never something to be overlooked there could be something far more sinister behind it! Not that I am trying to scare you or anyhting! Otherwise get some sleeping tablets and hope to God you made the right choice!

Apparantly, when we sleep, we leave our bodies to go to the astral dimension (the place waiting for us after death).Could be you got lost there somewhere. Are you aware of how to 'see' with your mind? Look up 'third eye'
If your looking for meaning, it doesn't really get much easier. You feel your lost. Top marks to the interpreter!

***One point advise***
Do not discuss dreams with stranger some times it could put you in trouble.
If you slept in a good condition, if you were not tired then there is a possibility some thing is going to happen to you. Some times dream tell us in advance. Some time they warn us. But it is difficult for a normal person to figure it out.
If this kind of dream continue then you must be worried otherwise pray for safety.
