The first place to start with any problem is a vet. For one thing, she's spoiled. Stop hand feeding her. Get a good quality food and feed her three times a day. Put her food in a bowl set it down for 20 minutes then pick it up. Believe me, she will not starve herself, when hungry enough she will eat. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. "Vet approved" means they have a vet on staff to approve their product. In other words, someone paid to approve it. Same with foods most vets recommend. Salesmen "gift" vets then the vet recommends the food. Most vets are not nutritionists! Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. BTW, cat food is not good for dogs, it is hard on their kidneys plus not the right nutrition.

1. Make sure your little sister does not feed him any more people food. 2. Provide his dog food at the regular time, allow a reasonable length of time for him to eat, if he doesn't pick it up and put it away until the next feeding time. 3. Do not feed him anything between his feeding times - not even dog treats until he eats his regular food. Always have water available. 4. Continue until he eats his regular food. Skipping a couple meals will not hurt your dog and when he gets hungry he'll eat what you provide.

I apologize for repeating what everyone else has said. But .. stop spoon feeding her. Keep the cat food out of her reach. Or feed the cat and keep your dog away from the cat's dish until the cat is done eating. Then fill the emptied cat dish with dog food.
Not only can we train dogs, young and old to learn "manners", tricks, behaviors, and etc.... the same dogs can train us to do stuff. Such as keep spoon feeding them.

keep the cat food where she cannot get to it. If she will eat it on her own than she will eat her own food. She isn't going to starve herself to death. Stop using the spoon. Feed her on a schedule, two to three times a day. Put her food out for 15minutes give or take. If she doesn't eat then pick the food back up until the next scheduled feeding. SHe will learn to eat when it's time, and to do it on her own. And don't give her any table food. Since she's being difficult that will only multiply your problems. She will figure it out if your persistent and consistent. When she gets hungry enough. She'll give in.

lock her in the laundry or just a room with tiled of lyno floors. it sounds strange but just for a couple of hours a night (checking every half an hour of course). if she has no toys or anything she will realize that the only entertainment she has is to eat. just keep the cat food away and she wont eat anyone elses. also leave the food in that same room during the day so she can come in and eat that rather than eating the cats. hope this helps!!

Unless you want to continue spoon feeding her then I would suggest you stop this immediately.

Pick a type of food that you want her to eat, put the appropriate amount in her dog bowl and then leave it where she can get it for about 15 minutes. If she does not eat it, remove the food from the floor to where she can't reach it and wait for about 8 hours and try again.

She may resist for up to a few days but she will not starve herself. She will eventually eat and then everyone is happy.

This is not cruel, she just sounds like she may have been quiet spoiled by her previous owners or maybe is just over whelmed by a new home and taking awhile to adjust. Nurturing the bahavior will just make it worse, so you need to decide if you want a happy, well-adjusted dog or a spoiled brat.

Hmm try putting her in a small place for a while where she can't get to any one's food. Place a bowl, don't spoon her and when she is hungry she'll go for the bowl instead, keep doing it untill she knows to eat from the bowl.

Now... I know this method might sound a bit cruel, to you, and possibly to others, too, but please, hear me out.

Stop feeding the dog from the spoon immediately. If you give in and feed her with the spoon, you're enabling her, and only making the problem worse.

Put the cat food somewhere where the cats can jump up and eat it, but the dog can't get to it. The cat food is for the cats, not the dog.

The dog will eat from her own food dish when she gets hungry enough. Simple as that. Don't give her any choice in the matter.

Again, I know this sounds cruel. And I know that you might say the dog might starve herself, first, but trust me, I've had to do this with a dog in my care. As long as you watch to make sure she eats on her own, and doesn't stop eating completely (In which case you should take her to a vet immediately, and see what the vet could do to help... Or, better yet, take the dog anyway, before doing what I suggested, and see what the vet says.), the dog won't starve.

Wow, that is a stubborn dog. Quit spoon feeding her, you are just encouraging that behavior. My opinion is if she was really THAT hungry she would eat her own food. She is just being stubborn. Hide the cat's food and let her get hungry enough to eat her own. To make her own food more appetizing, try adding something in it, like a hard boiled egg mashed up and mixed in, some chicken or beef broth, cottage cheese, or really anything as long as it coats the food and she can't just pick out the good stuff.
If you are willing, you could also try making a home diet. I have a great recipe, but it is some work to make it as well as more costly than commercial food, but it is a great recipe that dog's will chow down. If you do a home diet, you need to invest in a good quality multi-vitamin made for dogs so that they are getting all they need.
Good luck!!
