Both of these drugs are benzodiazepines, a type of sedative, they are used to treat a host of problems, mainly anxiety associated with depression, panic disorders, seizures, and muscle spasms. There are also many other uses for these sedatives. Of course you need to research any drug on your own as well as with a medical professional such as a doctor or pharmacist.

Look. I have been where you are but at a much worse level so you need to get this in check ASAP, especially at your age and I know just how bad it is. This drug wreaks havoc on people every day which is why the medical community is trending away from giving them out. Christ. What kind of flipping moron prescribes Xanax to a 14 year old kid???????????? ANYWAY--------- This is what you have to do and NOW and I want you to listen and act on my advice. I am more than twice your age and I've been down this road. #1, DO NOT, I REPEAT AND NEED YOU TO HEAR THIS LOUD AND CLEAR, DO ***NOT*** "TRY STOPPING." There is a biological reason why you are having those withdrawal symptoms. When you come off Xanax, your brain goes into overdrive causing those things to happen. As a result, you need to come off of them slowly under a doctor's care. HEAR ME. This drug has VERY serious side effects if you suddenly stop. You could have a seizure and drop dead. That probably won't happen so don't freak out, but it could which is why you need step two, ASAP. #2, Tell your mother. It's not like you got them on the street. A doctor prescribed them. If she's pissed, she's pissed but hopefully she'll shut up and get you on the right path. #3, Get to your doctor ASAP. The doctor is **not** going to yell at you. They are trained to be non-judgemental, removed from the situation and to treat you accordingly. I GUARANTEE you if the doctor is angry with anyone, It will be with the moron who prescribed these to you. It is hard for adults to get this drug these days so why they would give this to YOU is beyond me. Bottom line is you need to go to your doctor. It's been a while since I was 14 but I get your situation more than you will know and I know what I'm talking about. there is little hope of you getting off these yourself and at 14, you simply have no clue how to even attempt to go about it. Go to your doctor ASAP. this is nothing to mess around with.

Muscle relaxers can be prescribed following an automobile accident, after surgery if muscle spasms are a problem (muscles don't like being cut and sewn), and following orthopedic injury (imagine muscle spasms of a limb in a cast). Some people with cerebral palsy or who have had a stroke also develop painful muscle spasms.
Hope that gives you an idea of a few indications for these drugs.

no they are prescribed for panic and anxiety disorders they actually block the receptors so you get a calming effect. The only bad thing is that a person can develop a dependency for them.

They are also Anxyolytic drugs
The theory is "if mind relaxes the body relaxes and vice versa".
In Yoga the first Asana(posture) is Shavaasana (the corpse posture).. The person lying down is suggested to slowly relax all muscles and lie down calm as though dead. After some practice the mind also totally relaxes.
