I just read one of the questions by Mandy and this is what she said:
"You catch more flys with Honey, not fire and hell!"'

I am sorry but i think she's not much better than those who use the ''fire and hell'' metaphor because it is pompous and very degrading to me as an atheist that a christian would think of me as a fly that she needs to use honey to convert.(its not only about the figurative language...its the idea behind it as well)
Im wondering how many people think the same way?

(ps this is the entire question...)

I dont think atheists are here to convert people to abandon their beliefs...they may argue and debate but there's no such motives behind it.

I mean...you chat people up about religion on buses, train stations,at the malls,at the office...dont you think its abit excessive? And then you either have a ''hell and damnation'' tone, or a ''i feel so sorry for you that you dont know christ'' tone or ''a honeyed and patronising'' tone.Maybe people would respect christians more if they choose to talk about religion only when asked. Most of the other religions are able to do that!!

Personally I still find it very degrading in a sense. Though they are words of kindness it is still a very ignorant and offensive statement to make.

Though we do not believe in a higher being it is not as if we are incapable of Faith, Hope, Love, or practically any morals. We believe in Life, Love, Marriage and in Family. We believe in Literature, Art, and Science. We are nice people. We are good people. We are moral people. We atheist still believe in all those nice things, just not your God.

I don't begrudge believers. If this gives you happiness, then go for it. But don't try to convert me, my family, or friends. Please, don't try to make your beliefs mandatory, and don't expect me to pay for your beliefs. All we are asking for is some Respect. If you cannot even give us that you may as well stop lying to yourselves and us in such an ingenuine and insincere fasion and show us your true colors...

I can't really convert anyone, as it is not my duty to do that. I am here to witness the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. I do this by answering questions as asked. After I answer a question about the Gospel and salvation through Jesus Christ, it is then up to God to send the Holy Spirit to do the rest. He does this by turning the person towards Jesus. Anyway, no, I cannot convert and neither can anyone else. All we Christians can do is tell the truth and let whatever God wants happen if it is His will.

The similarity between this and the rogue Catholic priests, is that in both cases there is this vow of celibacy that suppresses natural sexuality. In most cases, this can be upheld, but there must be those for whom this vow must be torment. St Paul was well aware of this situation when he was writing to the Corinthians : "There is something I want to add for the sake of widows and those who are not married: it is a good thing for them to stay as they are, like me, but if they cannot control the sexual urges, they should get married, since it is better to married than to be tortured. (1 Corinthinans 7: 8-9). I would like to hear if the Qu'ran has similarly addressed this situation humanely, rather than just by the bludgeon of prohibition. If it has, then this may be the solution to the Asker's problem. Islam has a list of behaviours that are considered "haram" or unacceptable. If a woman dresses immodestly, then a Muslim man must avert his gaze, for fear of waking sexual urges. In places where all women and girls are compelled to wear the hijab, there should be no problem, but infidels sometimes dress in a way that is considered provocative to Muslim men deprived of normal sexual stimulation. What I think is happening (and there was a case too in the Pakistani community in the UK) is the infidel women are considered by some exempt from the commandment to treat them with respect, and are therefore fair game sexually. Coupled with deprivation from contact with the opposite sex outside the family, this leads to a very dangerous situation. I have seen discussion here a while back from Sikh girls who had been seduced by Muslim men, and persuaded into their religion as a form of evangelisation. No doubt Christians, Hindus and Buddhists are similarly being persuaded into Islam too by this method. Persuading someone to accept your religion, and persuading someone to fall in love with you involve much the same techniques. Very often, both are sincere. Those British girls were reported to have fallen in love with their older suitors (even though the authorities persist in referring to this as "abuse" in all cases where they were underage according the the law of the host nation, but not necessarily under Islamic law). The possibilities of pursuing romantic love are denied in a culture where marriages are arranged, and couples are sometimes strangers, even enemies, on their wedding day. The alternative of an open-minded and open-hearted infidel must just seem too tempting, especially when there are brownie points (and extra virgins in heaven) if the girl can be converted into Islam.

It IS degrading and very very patronising. It makes you wonder whether some of them are nice to you only for the reason of fulfilling their christian duties as most of the people on this site seem to be saying.

Yes. We do want everyone everywhere to become Christians. However, what she was saying is that we can't POSSIBLY expect people to become Christians if we're not being Christ-like.

But most of us realize that we can't literally "convert" someone. They have to make the choice by themselves. But why would a person want to become a Christian if every Christian they interact with is rude, judgemental, and hypocritical?

When you REALLY know the truth and it changes your life you can't do anything but share it with others. I'm not here to FORCE you to become a Christian but to point you in the direction to the Truth. God bless.

God tells us in His word to go and preach the gospel to every creature. It is the mission of every Christian to be ready to explain the hope they have at any time. We are the missionaries, it is our job to plant the seeds of truth in the hearts of people. We plant the seeds, God saves the souls.

ok well look at it this way, if you don't believe, you will have no trouble asking Jesus to come into your heart, because nothing will happen, that is why I don't get why you guys spend all your time trying to convince us that God doesn't exist. Prove it, ask Jesus into your heart, if he is not real then nothing will happen!
