Walk the 12 miles. That will serve the poor lady right. That will teach her not to have bladder problems.

Public transportation can sometimes be annoying. Why? Because you're dealing with THE PUBLIC. Anyone at anytime is riding the bus or subway, and you can't pick your traveling companions.

It sounds like what happened on the subway is an isolated incident; not something that's likely to happen everyday. You probably take the subway b/c it's a cheap, quick and convenient mode of travel to work. Comparatively, walking is cheap, but it's definitely not quick or convenient. And what will you do during inclement weather?

If you want to shake up your morning routine a little bit, then maybe consider traveling different routes on different days. Once during a transit strike, I had to take a cab to work and then carpool home. I LOVED IT! It was great having extra time in the mroning, and having some company in the afternoon. After the strike ended, I continued to ride cabs and carpool at least twice a week for several years. That quickly became my regular routine. It also made subway and bus rides a little less annoying, b/c I always knew I had other options. (Walking was never a option.)

As usual, there's a pay-off and a pay-up for everything. Cabs cost a lot more, and carpooling meant leaving work later. But for me, the pay-offs were worth it-- and certainly better than a strange subway rider with a bad bladder.

Good luck and happy commuting.

New York subway? Better than walking 12 miles to work, why not move to a more civilized place. I rode a subway yesterday, in a city bigger than NYC, not ONE instance of graffiti, no one yelling at the top of their lungs, I saw one guard the whole trip, with no gun. The trains were CLEAN, the people were clean and behaved. Kind of makes you wonder how two places could be so different, doesn't it. AND, this is a democracy, not a police state.

Carry a can of Lysol to kill germs before setting down. The lady may have a bladder control problem which can happen anywhere. I once knew a man that wet the floor of a post office.

Just do what I do, avoid sitting next to someone.
