Lets take this iraq war for example.
over 100,000 iraqi deaths for the sake of maintaining the american hegemony.

most all christians have supported the war from the beginning.
Sadaam may have not been the nicest guy, but he sure knew how to keep islamic fundamentalist idiocy at bay.

not one world leader sincerely fear(ed) an attack from iraq or north korea, neither country could put the slightest dent in any other country's infrastructure before it was met in kind with unmerciful retaliation from every other nation on this earth.

You can say that this war is to spread democracy all you want, but the truth is that we now see that a large portion of the middle east absolutely WILL NOT have it, at least not when it is pressed upon them by the U.S.

I think that when you are killing tens of thousands of people who just don't know any better, it's is just as applicable to "thou shalt not kill" as abortion might be.

what do you think?

Because even already born non-Americans are worth less than American fetuses, of course.

I think most people have assumptions about the war, but don't have access to all the information that is needed to understand it, and why they are fighting.
In fact, there has NOT been a terrorist attack on Americans in the northern part of Iraq, and no Americans have been killed there. It's in the Kurdish section, and what we should do is support THEM, and let then work their way south and take care of BOTH the Sunni, and Shiite, terrorists. You don't hear about the good we have done, and how the people are so thankful we are there, and have saved them from being wiped out. WHY? Because the major media only concentrates on the situation in Baghdad and is basically liberal. I would strongly suggest you get a copy of the book, "The Final Move Beyond Iraq", by Mike Evans. He is an award-winning journalist, and best-selling author who has served as a confidant to leaders in the Middle East for more than 20 years. He has actually spoken to the leaders of the places in northern Iraq, and he describes how and why the war began, and what we should do.
Iran is directly responsible for a lot of the terrorism in Iraq, and if anyone thinks that the terrorism will stop if we leave, they are sadly mistaken. If the troops came home, the terrorists would then come to America, and I don't think the American public is ready for the car-bombings and suicide attacks that would result. THEN people would wish that the war was still in Iraq, where at least out troops have weapons and armor to protect themselves.
As for abortion and capital punishment, there is a BIG difference between killing a convicted killer, and murdering an innocent, unborn human being. End of story!
And killing is not condemned in the Bible, it's MURDER of the innocent that is evil. Killing is sometimes necessary, in times of war, and self-defense, and executing the guilty.
And there WILL be a war with Iran very soon if they do not STOP making a nuclear weapon. Then the war in Iraq won't be a topic anymore!

Well, first of all, the Hebrew word that was translated to "kill" actually means "murder," which you've already been told.

And I don't think we were told the truth about Iraq. I think the MAIN reason we went in was so that our troops could be ready to move into Iran at a moment's notice.

You're mistaken about world leaders fearing an attack from Iraq or North Korea. Both were threats during Clinton's administration, and Clinton was urged by both Democrats AND Republicans to take action. Furthermore, we were firing on Iraq from near Bahrain as far back as 1999, if not farther back.

Besides, MOST Iraqis DO want democracy. If they didn't, why would they have risked their lives to vote?

Anyway, so what? It's just typical HUMAN hypocrisy, to not agree with killing in one case, but be okay with it in other cases. What's up with people being okay with abortion, but against the death penalty?

For the record, I'm not for or against the war. I think the only people who REALLY know what's going on there are the Iraqis themselves, and the soldiers.

...I do believe that fighting the Iraq war has kept the terrorists busy, and kept us safer over here in the US - in that sense, it has been successful.
...Everyone went in with the same intelligence, make no mistake, with Kerry being one of the loudest, as was Hillary Clinton - then as the war dragged and became unpopular, then they tried to wiggle out of it, but their voting records reveal them for what they really are. - some WMDs have been found; most were probably moved out of Iraq or dumped into the Euphrates river while President Bush was making up his mind to invade.
...Having said all that, I am a conservative and am personally sick of the war on terror - it galls me to hear the new body counts every day, and to know we are spending billions on this every day.
...Here are some things I think you you should consider:
1. If a terrorist started to fire at me or a suicide bomber came at me (either at home or abroad), what should I do?
a. Roll over and play dead.
b. Defend myself and take the sucker out.
c. Get ready to be murdered.
...I would choose "b" (of course, that is assumes that I want to keep on living).
**
...There is no Bible passage that says I cannot defend myself.
**
...RE Iraq and the war on terrorism: I am personally sick of more and more of our guys getting killed every day. And war is always an expensive proposition - we are borrowing away our children's future for what seems to be an unwinnable war.
**
...Either we should pull out and let the natives have their civil war on their own
...or, we should start a full scale conflict, no holes barred, no fighting with hands behind our backs, to include nuclear strikes on the enemy's major cities. I would warn the civilian population of say (Iran) that nukes are coming within a few hours, and tell them to evacuate. I would demand surrender, and if they do not comply, then start levelling cities, including those in Iran. They could not stop us - they don't have the intelligence, nor do they have the equipment.
**
...Any future terrorist events against the US should be investigated swiftly, and the perpetrator(s) should receive swift, severe, and certain retribution (destroying cities, utilities, factories, nuclear capabilities, and other helpful infrastructure) and any kind of helpful exports should be withheld - like I believe we are the world's bread basket - withhold it.) Leaders' dwellings should also be targeted. They should be hit and hit hard. It wouldn't take long before they would figure out it is not smart to attack us.
(We would need, of course, some leaders and politicians with backbone enough to defend the US and its interests - good luck!) And we could do this, without sending in US troops.
...We are fighting this war with one hand tied behind our backs...we need to pull out the stops, and really let the hammer down, and pulverize the enemy, or else pull out, go home, and forget it.
...That's my take.

Can you not see the difference between killing a group of a few hundred cells that have not even developed a nervous system (and hence are no more aware than a rock) and a 25 year old man with two childred, a wife and a house in Celveland?

No?

Gosh you have no sense of morality?

I think you confuse the fact that Bush is a republican (and ALL republicans MUST be christian) with who supports the war. I am Christian and I do not support the war. I support the troops and want them outta there. With abortion, that is a personal choice for women. I'msick of people thinking that they know what I'm all about based on my religion. I am christian, but I still respect the sanctity of life for everyone, and do not for a moment pretend to have all of the answers. I think we oughtta get the hell out of Iraq and let them have things the way they want- who are we to change thousands of years of history?

Ya but its too late for US to quit war.All is fair in love and war.Thats why its called war.Even gods had there own war.But it was good against evil.Casualties are to be in war on bothsides.
May Iraqi's died but along with them many US soldiers too.Saddam was cruel to his own men.He deserves what he had to.Buts things went wrong on how to handle Iraq.Abortion has two sides. If you cannot keep or support a child its better you dnt.Its better there is no child then seeing a child in pain.Ya all that happens is not fair. But the reason why it happend counts the most

Well, let's see.... Hmmmm.... (I'll try to put myself in the state of mind of that brand of Christian.)

OK, ya see, it's bad to destroy something that has the potential for sentience, because they haven't had the chance to be evil yet. But, um, it's OK to kill innocent women and children, because, um, well, Saddam was a really bad man, and, um, well, those men, women and children had a chance to become Christians and therefore avoid eternal torture in hell. Since they didn't become Christians, they darn well deserve to die, and furthermore, to be tortured eternally in hell. (Hey, this is starting to make sense!)

I mean, really, Saddam was a bad man. He killed thousands of innocent men, women and children. And by showing the world how morally superior we are, by taking him out, like we did, then the whole world will learn that we are a superior people with a superior culture and then everyone will want to be just like us.

Oh, and you know, our superior way of life, well, we really need that oil, and having our very own country in the middle east, on top of all that oil, well, that will be good for us. We'll still be able to drive our monster SUVs. And really, they'll like us and support us in that mission (accomplished!!!!), because if they only knew what we *really* are like, well, they'd all want us to have their oil.

I do not get people some times, we are attack by the middle east for decades and we finally do something about it and now we are the bad guys. Saddam has killed more than 100,000 people by chemical weapons and you do not think we should do nothing? Saddam has carried out his threats numerous times in the past. Korea has made threats but never carried them out. United States (Manasseh) is God's battle Axe, to bring up countries or bring them down, just as it describes in the bible. God is bring back the original Babylon (Iraq and Iran). To have peace, you need to take out people like this. In the 1940's the European nations questioned Hitler, as far as what he was going to use the missiles he was developing at the time. Hitler lied to them and the rest is in the history books. You need to take out threats like this.

I am a Christian, and my beliefs are the opposite. I am against the war, and pro-choice. Not all of us are right-wing fundies, you know.

I'm truly flabbergasted at the number of people who believe that all, or even most, Christians think the same way. We are still individuals, you know. George Bush wants you to think we are all with him, and you have bought into it, just like the fundies who support him have bought into the fake religious front of the extreme right-wingers that cater to the upper class.

Belledonna, what about unborn Iraqi children? Do they deserve to die?

While we're at it, what about innocent Iraqi citizens period?

First of all, xtians all too commonly have misinterpreted the bible. "thou shalt not kill" is more better interpreted from hebrew to "thou shalt not murder" A HUGE difference!!! Which is why so many bibles are not accurate. Sadly, all too often Atheists have to point this out here on Y!R&S.
