It can be spelled either Deviled or Devilled, but in English it is more commonly spelled deviled. The correct answer is that deviled is a spicy OR strong flavored food, as MANY people have noted. Hence, spicy chicken AND chocolate cake are referred to as deviled. Devil’s food cake is richer and has more intense chocolate flavor than regular chocolate cake. This is the problem with Yahoo Answers. The person asking the question, who has the least knowledge of the subject, decides the best answer, so you can never know whether or not the chosen answer really is the best answer unless you study the subject yourself, which makes Yahoo Answers superfluous. The best answer usually ends up being the answer they like rather than the answer that is correct. Therefore, the “Best Answer” here is not the best answer. A spicy chicken recipe is only an example of the thousands of recipes of deviled food.

Devilling is a general term and is sometimes used when a food item is featured with a sharp or spicy note. The terms apparently originate in the 18th century so circa 17xx ! having said that adding spices to foods predates that by a long time just the ancient folk had too many orgies to attend to be bothered with inventing culinary terms, so no devillimus maximus.
One would assume that the term probably refers to the firey taste being something the Devil might like although I am fitting a convenient connection to an obscure taxonomy there.

Deviled = spicy. It has cayenne, or jalapeno or some type of spicy component to it. It could also mean that it looks red, which may not necessarily mean that it's spicy. But 9 times out of 10, it's probably spicy. Hope this helps. Happy eating!

The meaning of the name Damien is 'To tame'. With your spelling it could have a different meaning, not sure. There was a movie years ago about a boy named Damian or Damien who was the devil's son.

Deviled is a dish seasoned with a high 'heat' or spiciness, usually with a pepper such as black pepper or cayenne, but other hot seasonings can be used for 'deviled' food. Note the 'flavourings' heading on this description for "deviled eggs".
I LOVE deviled chicken with fresh black pepper and a citrus marianade!
