I've had a roommate for about 5 months, and we're dating. There's a huge festival where I grew up (about 4 hours away), and my whole family lives there. I want to take him with me, and have him party with me at the festival, but he's expressed that we're not an official couple yet, so he's afraid it's kind of a double-edged sword. He's afraid I'm going to make him meet all of my family, and that makes him nervous. He was fine with meeting my brothers (who are going to visit us here), but I want him to be ok with coming with me to this festival. We've traveled before for concerts and festivals, so I know it's not that he doesn't want to travel with me. How can I make him comfortable enough to come with me?

It might help to let him know you realize the two of you are not an official couple yet, and if he does not wish to meet your family while attending the festival, this would be fine with you. If he has travelled to concerts and festivals in the past, this might help convince him you have no alliterative motives but to attend the festival with him.

Say your going as friends and you would introduce him to people as a friend. If he is still uncomfortable try inviting two more people. So if you guys go meet your family it would seem more like a group of friends hanging out, and no one should assume you two are dating.

He is not really serious about you, so he does not want to meet your parents. Guys think that is like saying, "I am going to marry your daughter".
