I get the following message when trying to play a dvd on my laptop.

PowerDVD does not support the current display mode. (DDraw Overlay mode is recommended)

I have the latest Direct X and I tried changing the resolution with no joy.

Any suggestions.

I'm using Windows xp pro.

It's your video drivers you need to update, NOT DirectX.

yes you can update your graphics drivers but I would use gom player as well supports more formats
