get a freeview box, check

In 2008 all terrestrial transmissions will stop, so you will have to buy a digital receiver for the telly.

You will still need an Ariel though. Best advice I can give is to pop into Argos and buy an Ariel that you plug into the electric to boost the signal strength. They priced between £10 and £40 so choose wisely.

Presumably there is an aerial somewhere. If it's on the roof try to find where it comes into the house. If it has a good signal, fit a passive splitter (Y connector) and run a lead to her room. If it's not too good a signal, install a 2 set mains-powered booster instead.

When digital TV arrives you will need the best signal you can get, so I would take the second option anyway.
