I think by the way that you worded your question that you are sincere, however I'm guessing that some of the people above me didn't give some nice answers, hope I'm wrong. You didn't specify what we don't believe in. I am going to guess that you are Christian and you don't understand how we can't believe in the Bible, in Jesus Christ as our saviour, in Heaven and Hell, etc. I'm actually agnostic, so I'm not quite Athiest yet not quite Thiest. I don't specifically believe in the things mentioned because they make no sense to me. I can't comprehend that there is only one way to eternal happiness. That our creator would only welcome us back if we chose to believe something. A creator who truly loved those they created unconditionally would welcome them all back, or the ones who left the world he/she/they created for them a better place. I'm sorry, but not all Christians (the ones who have accepted Jesus as their Saviour) leave this world a better place, and not all non-Christians leave this world a worse place for their non-belief.

Nowhere else in recorded history are there any verifiable accounts of snakes talking, bushes catching on fire and then telling people what to do, gigantic bodies of water splitting open to let people through ... or giants walking the Earth bullying people! Neither has there ever been one verifiable claim that God is out there watching us, getting mad at us, pouting if He doesn't get enough praise, and making up rules for us to follow and if we don't He'll make us burn.

It's a bunch of stories that have been told for so long that people really believe it. It's the proverbial "Urban Legend!" But it's NOT truth. It's just silly to say it's the truth.

You have no trouble disbelieving thousands of gods... the only one you think is real is the one your parents told you was real. Coincidence?

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

Oh yeah, your religious belief is making you reject scientific facts (evolution) - I saw one of your answers.

It doesn't make any sense. (Assuming that you are a christian) How can you believe that 2000 yrs ago a man was born of a virgin the son of god, died, was resurrected 3 days later and then ascended into heaven. How does THAT make any sense? I think people who are raised from birth to believe this are immune to how ridiculous it actually is.

I don't have any fantasies about the nature of life. Sometimes it is harsh but that's just how it goes. Everything dies. Why are you any different? Why should the invisible "soul" in you go on to live forever?

Edit: "Because they choose not to. Thank God for free will!"
What a stupid answer. Only a human could invent such a retarded concept as free will.

Ask yourself why don't you believe in Santa. I know believers really hate this answer but I'm just trying to demonstrate my point of view

When you understand why you don't believe in Zeus, Odin, Krishna, Isis, or any of the other thousands of gods, you will understand why atheists don't believe in yours. There is NO evidence that ANY of them exist. The Biblical Jesus-God is significantly younger than most, and was copied from the legends of earlier gods. Do some research.

You make yourself sad, other people don't make you sad...try to get control of your emotions a bit more and stop projecting your own problems onto other people perhaps.

Theists believe in god /gods, atheists don't share the theists belief in god /gods...do you think everyone should believe what you believe?...why would you think that?

Do you believe in the Greek Goddess Athena? do you think it makes Greek people who believe in Athena sad that you don't or can't believe in Athena?...it's the same thing. You are an atheist as far as Athena is concerned and I bet you don't lose any sleep over it.

Me?, I see no evidence of a deity at all and have far more evidence against the existence of one.

There is no proof. How can you believe. Do you believe in the tooth fairy, Santa clause, unicorns? Why not? You have the CHOICE to believe don't you? So why don't you?
