One way to tell is to notice if you are more depressed when there are shorter days and longer nights. If so, make an effort to get a little sunshine each day, even in the winter. If it's seasonal depression, this makes a huge difference. Also, use bright, full-spectrum indoor lighting in the winter months.

Seasonal depression is experienced in people who do not get an adequate amount of sunlight .... during the shortest days of the year. In North America, we are currently experiencing the longest daylight hours of the year.

If your depression does not change with the seasons, and has lasted for a number of years, likely seasonal depression is not the cause.

Consider seeing another Dr. for a second opinion.

I know people that have season depression. Do you get crazy, fusterated, sad, ect. during winter time? Especially when you see snow? Do you get really bed head aces or migranes when it is raining, cloudy, or when the sun is not out? If so, then you most likely have seasonal depression and you should consult in another doctor.
