On a standard T-120 tape ...

SP = 2 hours

EP = 4 hours

SLP = 6 hours

Most people either use SP for high quality recording or SLP because of its long time length. Many VCR's don't even have a setting to record in EP anymore although they will play a tape that was recorded at that speed.

EP is extended play. The abbreviations varied from VCR to VCR, but some had 3 speeds. SP was standard play, LP for long play to get 4 hours on a 2 hour tape, and EP for extended play to get 6 hours on a 2 hour tape. As I said, the abbreviations varied as to which was the standard, long and longest play time.
