depending where you live prices varrie. you could go to a state or a county out-pt clinic if you have no insurance and go for free. providing you don't have alot of money. otherwise you could look into clinics that offer sliding scale.

The cost varies from place to place, and organizations, and insurances, as well as the length and purpose of the visit.
Some Psychiatrists work alone, and can be very pricey. Others work with Public Mental Health Organizations, others contract with insurance companies.

Public mental health organizations and insurance companies are going to have the smaller out-of-pocket expense for the patient. What you pay will depend either on the amount of your income (Sliding-scale-fee) or on what your insurance company says on your insurance card.
A visit can be as short as 15 minutes to evaluate your medications, and my insurance-co-pay is about $15 to $30.
The insurance and Dr I had previously, the visit was for 30 minutes, and my co-pay was about $50 or $60. That Dr. said if I were to pay cash (no insurance) the 1/2 hour would be something like $75 to $100 to evaluate my medications and update my prescriptions.

(I have heard rumors of big city psychiatrists charging hundreds of dollars an hour for their services.)

The reason for your visit will determine the length of time you are there.
Initial visits for patients are usually longer in length, as the Dr. needs to evaluate your symptoms, make a diagnosis, and determine the most appropriate medication/treatment. When first beginning a medication, your visits may be more frequent so your health and reactions to the med can be monitored closely. As your symptoms come into control, and you are showing you are stable on a medication, then return visits will become less often.

What is important is that if you do have serious problems, that you do get evaluated and treated appropriately. Your safety is of utmost importance, your ability to function as normally as possible is the goal.

probably over two hundred per session without insurance, and that doesn't cover the meds. try to get a shorter session, like twenty five to thirty minutes to cut down costs.
