Christians believe that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God and born through the Virgin Mary

No, why should we?

Besides, Mary was not the mother of God.

Even though Jesus was God and Man, Mary was just the mother to his human nature, not his divine nature. God was the father of his divine nature.

Matt 13:54-58
Mark 3:31-35
John 6:42

Mary didn't stay a virgin after she had Jesus.
Nowhere does the bible even hint that Mary was more then a special woman God used to have the Messiah.
Nowhere can you find verses that say to worship Mary.
No OT prophet ever called her the mother of god.
The OT and NT is full of scriptures about the Messiah Jesus and He alone is to be worshipped.
Isaiah 9:6
Matt 24-25
Rev 18-22

I can only share the truth.

Worship no, praise yes. Mary was a human being and even if she was chosen to give birth to the savior, she wasn't God...God reserves worship for himself. On the other hand, Mary answered "I'm here Lord" when he called her name and for that she deserves our admiration and praise. Would that everyone would respond the same way when God asks them to do something!

In my opinion, worshiping or praising the Virgin Mary is blasphemy and is synonymous with idolizing her. Another fact to remember is that Mary was only a virgin for Jesus's birth. After Jesus' birth, she did have marital relations with Joesph; producing other children. Why she still is called the Virgin Mary is beyond me. She is certainly an admirable and imporant figure, but nonetheless utterly human and not worthy to be praised; unlike God.

i was brought up catholic, although i consider myself just a christian now. i was taught ONLY God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are worthy of worship and prayer. anything or anyone else is putting them before God, which is in the 10 commandments. i was also taught to ask the Saints for intercessory prayer. intercessory prayer is when we ask someone (a Saint or even a friend) to pray for you or with you. the other day when i lost a very important notebook, i didn't pray to St. anthony asking him to find it. i asked St. anthony to pray with me to God, that if it be God's will, could He please help me find it. and, yes, as always, it worked.

praise, applause and celebration are often misunderstood terms. i pour all these onto my children whenever they do something good. it's called positive reinforcement. when i admire someone(virgin mary or even one of my teachers) i let them know. i don't idolize or worship human beings. i thank and praise God for creating those people. all good and all love come from God.

God bless.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is venerated not worshipped

Absolutely not. This is a concept invented by the Catholic Church. God says to put no other Gods before him. The Bible says there is only one mediator between man and God.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, himself man, Christ Jesus.

Yes, Mary did a wonderful thing, but we have no scriptural basis to pray to her or worship her.

2007-07-11 18:40:38 · answer #7 · answered by Matt 3 · 3 0

Absolutely not. Mary was only a creation of God, she was given a special purpose and that is to deliver Christ through her. She is not a spirit but only a person who has lived on Earth, unlike Christ who is the real one to be praised and adored.

The Bible makes no such commandment or even suggests that we worship Mary. Mary was a blessed woman who was the earthly vessel in which Christ was brought to us. She is held in the highest esteem and respect. She was a mortal woman, and no mortal woman receives worship. But I do believe that Mary deserves respect for the role she played in bringing Christ to us.

A mighty misconception amongst most christians. The term immaculate translated from hebrew means "clean" or not dirtied. The actual intent is meant to say that her bearing of Jesus was of good intent, which means she was married to Joseph and conceived the child in wedlock.
