No offense to the above answer, but he is somewhat incorrect, not all phones work in all countries. The most widely used technology used in Singapore is GSM, therefore if you buy a phone in Hong Kong or Macau, be sure it is an unlocked GSM phone that works on the same frequency in Singapore, or is a tri or quad band phone (can use multiple frequencies). You are correct that almost all Japanese phones will not work in many countries (and vice-versa), the three major mobile technologies there are CDMA, WCDMA and PDC and are not compatable with GSM, many Japanese manufacturers do make GSM phones for the overseas market though, so the particular phone you are looking for may be available in GSM. Good luck.

Cell phones can be used in almost all countries now. Make sure the brand that you use is unlocked. That means that it will take the sim cards of any country or company. It doesn't matter where you buy it as long as its unlocked. Ask for help from your local dealer and then compare prices when your are in HK. Careful in HK. They will give you a great price on the phone then charge you major for the extras.
