I dont know what's going on with Churches.

Let's all just stay home and read our bible alone. We might have a better chance of reaching Heaven that way.

You said, "most atheist were raised catholic",
Well that should tell you right there, that the catholic churches are the ones that are "false-fake"!
If the catholic church was the "only means of salvation", then there probably wouldn't be near as many atheists!

Unbeknownst to many people, since Vatican II there has been many upset Catholics who believed that the Pope (John XXIII) was bending too far to make the Protestants happy. Other Catholic sects consider the Roman Catholic church part protestant, and ever since the 60's, cold war in the spiritual and in the physical world commenced. "There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church" is one of the teaching that has never changed, and is in direct conflict with alliances with Protestant beliefs.

That is all I know about it. Clear as mud?
I speculate that even if you think it is harmless to worship in the Catholic church, and do not set yourself stubbornly against her (even if you do not practice within that parameter), you are saved. And so long as you are not stubborn, nor holding grudges against anyone, ...same thing. It's up for interpretation.

Whether I agree with him or not, it's a pretty gutsy thing to say, and not just once.

I'm not Catholic, but I loved John Paul and thought that old guy must have been an angel. But when THIS guy came up to the podium, I was so disappointed! Man, it was like I had psychic ability or something, but I just saw him as evil!

And look what he's done to eff up the Catholic church .... he's ticked off all the Muslims on the planet and now he's ticked off the Christians and everyone else who isn't Catholic!!!!

Hmmmmm, .... Anti-Christ, perhaps?

I read somewhere that the last Pope will be assassinated and then the end of the world as we know it will happen. I'm agnostic .... but I'm still superstitious!

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 819: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9p3.htm#819

With love in Christ.

Actually, I thought that was hard to believe and came up with the full story in which he does not say that. The story was twisted by the media and other churches. Why they are so concerned about discrediting another religion's leader is beyond me.
BTW Gary- Catholics don't worship idols. If you would take the time to study a religion before making erroneous statements, you might just learn something.

the pope became a savior when the FIRSTpope chose to become a role model for the people of the planet;regardless of their religion. for one to say that their religion is the only one that is the best means that that pope has lost sight of his true position. they are only to bring about self esteem and good morals for the family and unto others.as for the churches, followers should always remeber that there will always be evil in thw world and that unity will always prevail wrongdoing, true salvation lies in the heart of the individual. do good by yourself and for others and the pope has sent a good message.

Benedict has now done irreparable harm to his church. He loves attention, and in trying to get attention he has undone much of the progress made since Vatican II. This former follower of a dictator is becoming one himself.
I could never belong to an organization that has such a "private, members only" attitude, nor one that is as repressive and oppressive, especially toward women, as the Catholic church.

I am Catholic and I knew that he was going to be a problem when he was chosen. He is literally the antithesis of my favorite Pope ,John the 23rd.

He published a major work saying that Salvation is in "Christ alone" Deus Caritas Est.

So your Thesis has no merit.
