That's why women don't have to dress decently or wear head-scarves in church anymore...I tried pointing out that this practice only began in 1960 (not wearing head scarves in church), but she just kept going on about the veil in the temple being torn and a new covenant begin made. I wasn't entirely convinced. So, if the New Covenant was made 2000 years ago, yet women wore head scarves up until 1960,...what were all the other women (in history) doing wearing head scarves up to that point?

What does head scarves have to do with the New Covenant?? You lost me.

Learn the word of God, follow Christ. Wear a headscarf if you're in a culture that requires it, and you feel the need to fit in. Otherwise, don't.

When Jesus was crucified on the cross, the veil was rent in two from
top to bottom so that no one could say it was done by a person.
Matthew 27:51---What it means is that we have the right to approach
God any time. All the old traditions and rules in Moses day no longer
apply except the 10 commandments. We don't have to give sacrifices
because Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice when He died for our sins.
We are free to worship and have that close personal fellowship with
Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.

ADDED: Head scarves and hats may still be worn because of rules
and regulations of certain churches ex: The Brethren

The temple is an architectural kind of the a while appointed with the aid of God. The veil of the temple separates the Holy place from the Holy of Holies. The Holy place is embellished with products which correspond with our present day age, the "church age". The 7 branched candlestick, the 12 leavened loaves of shewbread, the golden altar and, needless to say, the veil. The Holy of Holies corresponds with the advent Kingdom Age. each and everything is overlaid with gold, symbolizing righteousness, the mercy seat on ideal of the ark of the covenant symbolizing the throne of messiah common upon God's regulation interior the ark, and the cherubim flanking the throne characterize the two cherubim guarding a thank you to the tree of existence, Jesus having been crucified on a bypass of timber giving existence the place previously have been the curse of loss of life. The tearing of the veil symbolizes the activities led to with the aid of the 7 pronouncements of the "powerful angel" on the tip of this age while the way is made clean for gentile believers to go into into the fourth and intensely final age appointed to this earth.

The curtain being torn in the temple has nothing to do with wearing head scarves. It has to do with Jesus removing the veil between man and God. Now we can go directly to God through Jesus.
I am a born again Baptist, and I have no idea where she got that from.

The veil in the temple was the curtain that separated the people from the Holy of Holies. Only the high priest could enter. When Jesus died, the veil was torn, ending the separation between us and God. Jesus is our high priest and we don't have to have a priest to intercede for us anymore.

As I understand, a head covering was a sign of submission. You can if you want, but don't have to. We no longer live under the "Law" of Moses, but have direct communion with God Almighty.

PS - hats are pretty.

You know they come up with new ones all the time! Okay I don't know about the whole new covenant thing. But this is what I know, you cover your head to keep the watchers away from you. Men and woman have to cover, that is why you see Jewish men wearing a yarmulke and women wear wigs or cover with a scarf just like Muslim women do. I do know some Christian women who are young, and still cover their head when going to church.
You gotta watch those born agains, they make stuff up. You should have asked her where in the bible does it say that.

Your friend is dead wrong. Yes the veil split but this describes God leaving earth and returning to heaven thus ending or breaking the covenant of blood sacrifice on an alter. Those fools had God himself Jesus and the Holy Spirit with them and rejected them all when they sent Jesus to the Romans.
Thus a new covenant which begins at the cross where we admit that we are all unworthy sinners and need to be reborn into different spirits. Righteous in the sight of Jesus. Not each other though.
The best thing gave us was forgiveness for ourselves and for us to forgive each other.
I come from old line Pentecostal worship and watched judgment and legalism kill churches.
My advice get over it. If you want to wear a scarf wear one and leave others to their relationship with their savior. If you can't give love and understanding don't offer anything. Talk to your pastor. It his responsibility not yours. Tell him you are offended and then hold on.
Lord I believe, help me in my unbelief.

Old covenant: Law.
New covenant: Love.

Before, dress codes were inforced by law. Now it's up to the individual motivated by love to decide what is apropriate or what may cause someone else to stumble.

If a woman loves herself enough, she knows she doesn't need to dress like Britany Spears to be noticed by men.

If a woman knows how much her heavenly Father loves her, again she will not have such a need to gain acceptance from men. She knows and is confident in who she is and the beauty that is within and not without.

If a woman loves her brothers in Christ then she won't wear miniskirts and cleavage showing tanktops that can hinder a young man in his own walk with christ. The bible tells us not to be stumbling blocks to anyone else.

It all comes down to Love.

Jesus established the new covenant and gave it to us at the last supper, when he also gave us his body and his blood, and where he eternally fulfilled the promise of the Hebrew Passover.

The tearing of the veil signified the permanent departure of the Holy Spirit from the Jewish temple.

Your baptist friend is probably just parotting what she heard her preacher say.

She doesn't understand the meaning of the torn curtain...

At one time the only ones permitted to come into the presence of the Lord was the high priest, anyone else would die. When Jesus was crucified for 'our' sins, he made restitution to God for us. In other words, we were cleansed by His blood. When He died, the curtain was torn, opening the way for all 'believers' to be able to come before God's throne.
