what does it mean when you have no idea how to fight but when you do fight somebody, someone asks you seriously "where did you learn martial arts?"

Natural talent in fighting or that everybody you've fought sucks.

Then again, it could only be the uninformed person thinking any sort of good fighting is martial arts trained.

After all, a self taught street fighter may end up being a better fighter than a black belt.

Some street fighters or "toughs" come by it naturally and can be dangerous opponents and can do some things that look like or are some of the same techniques as those that are taught in martial arts. However they usually lack the wider variety of tools and techniques that a trained, experienced martial artist can employ and also lack the defensive skills and counters to various offensive techniques.

It means the person they fought has natural fighting ability or the the person is very ignorant and they want to justify why they lost.
