1 Corinthians 11:3-10
3 Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.
5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved.
6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.
7 A man ought not to cover his head,[b] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;
9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
10 For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head
Answer: Christ is the head of Man Man shold not worship God unless covered by Christ. Man is the covering of the woman

1 Cor. 11: 3-5:
" (3) Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. (4) Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. (5) And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved.
Lots of possible interpretations for this verse. Some churches interpret it literally to mean that a woman must cover her head (hat, veil, prayer shawl...even a nun's mantel) in church. Other churches interpret this to mean that women who aren't "covered" by a man shouldn't speak in church. Still others interpret it to mean that women shouldn't have cut their hair short (verse 15 goes on to say that "...if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering").
Personally, I think this particular chapter was written at a specific time for a specific group of people who were dealing with a very specific set of problems...Paul was trying to communicate something much broader and used terminology that would mean something to them in terms of a situation they would understand. Perhaps a shaved head had a cultural meaning at that time or perhaps a group of women in the church in Corinth were speaking out in church against the beliefs of their husbands and creating strife and divisions in the church (and Paul was suggesting that women should take spiritual questions to their husbands instead of directly to the church...perhapsrelated to the "wives submit to your husbands" statements in Eph. 5:22 and Col. 3:18).
Does this mean that I think the chapter has no relevance now? Not at all...but I think it is one of those parts of the bible that make it the "living word of God". Not at all unlike Eph. 5:18 ("be ye not drunk with wine..."). When you read verses like these (and many others) you are supposed to listen to the message that God has for YOU in this verse. For some, this might mean that they should wear a hat while for others it might mean something else...just as when some people read Ephesians, God tells them that they shouldn't get drunk while he tells others (perhaps those with a drinking problem) that they shouldn't drink at all! The bible contains many absolute truths, but it also contains many less concrete ideas that allow God to use it to speak individually to each of us according to his plan and our needs!

The Bible says to do it "on account of the Angels." Meaning that as Christ is the Head of the Church, and the Church is the Bride of the Christ, the male is the image of god, and the female the image of the male.
So therefore we are in the image of God, and as such should never cover our heads, as God would never cover his. Especially when sharing knowledge of his truth, justice and love. So, as the image of man, a woman should show her place in the Church and show humility and cover her head when around a brother.
Sorry, I know this can sound kind of 'sexist' but its really in the best interest of the female. It protects her from abuse by reminding her husband to care for her more, love her, appreciate her and remember that she was a gift to him to be loved as a single part of him.

It is all "perception" If you want to see the pagan influence in it that is what you are seeing, and just because they used the ceremony does not mean they worshiped the being behind the ceremony. The did this so people may turn themselves around and through this learn a better way. Each time took on a NEW meaning, so that became the NEW perception so to them the OLD PERCEPTION was to have disappeared but as you can see although maybe in minority but still around. It has been watered down by names such as Metaphysical etc. All the same in the long run.

When they do this they are showing subjection to the headship arrangement as outlined at 1 Corinthians 11:3-9. They are showing they are humble in the presence of men. It's not a women's lib thing, it's just being humble.

Why do women wear hats in church? - a very good question. My answer may surprise you: I thought that women, in particular, older women wore hats, because as a woman ages there is sometimes hair loss in the top middle part of her head and the hat conceals this.

Most traditional Christian churches (Catholic for one) holds that men should not have their heads covered in church but women should. Many women will wear a simple lace piece on top of their head as a sign of respect and reverence for God.

Its because in the bible it says that when a women prays she shall be covered by her glory. Some of the Christian religions believe that a women's glory is some short of fabric or hat, others believe that a women's hair is her glory. That is what I have been taught.
