I just went shopping for a radio yesterday and was very interested in a radio with a USB port - I asked if it would play an iPod and the salesman said it would only play songs on memory sticks.

So maybe yours doesn't work.

USB iPod Control on the DEH-P6900UB is compatible with iPod® (5th generation or later/Firmware Version 1.2 or later/iPod nano Version 1.2 or later). A 3rd or 4th generation iPod® requires the CD-IB100II adapter.

make sure that you have mp3 files loaded on your ipod and not the itunes protected files, also make sure that you are using your white usb cable that came with your ipod to connect it to the pioneer usb cable. that should help
good luck

Most Pioneers you push down the volume button for about 3 seconds while the unit is off.
