The part about the man taking his brother's widow doesn't justify their bigotry. But to be on the safe side, let's not give them any ideas. I don't like my brother in law in that way.

Before you go and get on the muslims' case on censorship, better check with the christians. They're no better. In fact, they've been doing that for years. Boycotting and threatening with violence, although they'll never admit the latter. Same with the Jews and other religious groups. I'm not going to comment on that Dutch guy or what he is and did, because I don't have enough facts to make an opinion on him. Besides, you don't need governments to censor any questionable material for you. You're on a computer? You have a mouse, either click "ignore" or switch to another web site. Same with television, you have the remote, change channels or switch it off. With radio, turn it off or change stations. Why is it so hard to do? Violence is not always a good answer nor is it a good solution. Free speech is when losers are letting you know they're here. Censorship just make people hide. Think about it.

In Acts, God has already given Paul a vision that all animals for deem clean for consumption. And you might want to check this link out (http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByDate/1989/684_Manhood_Womanhood_and_the_Freedom_to_Minister/) on the interpretation of the passage on women remaining silent and not teaching in church.
I agree that passages have to be read in context. The brother of a deceased man can take his widow as his wife as stated in the Old Testament because it is their culture. So passages have to read in relation to the cultural, social and religious background that the Scripture was written in.
God says explicitly that homosexuality is wrong, just like how He said clearly in Leviticus that we should not tattoo our bodies. But God also said to love the sinner and hate the sin. So our stand against homosexuality the act, and not against homosexuals.
As far as I know (I may be mistaken), scientists have yet to prove that homosexuality is a product of nature.

Christians don't get their anti-homosexuality beliefs from Leviticus. If you read the Bible you'd know that the purpose of the Old Testament law was not to make us righteous but to show us that we can't possibly keep all the rules that would be necessary to be righteous.
So Jesus came along and fulfilled the law and gave us a new way to live that doesn't require adherence to the Old Testament law.
The reason Christians do not approve of homosexual behavior is because of passages in Romans (New Testament) that specifically say it is perverted and sinful.
So the answer to your question is that NONE of the OT law applies to us today, but the anti-homosexual stuff is repeated in the part of the Bible that DOES apply to us today.

I look at the Bible as a product of its place and time -- and thus view the Leviticus laws as a slice of history, and probably not the best guidelines for living in the 21st century.
To be fair, many Christians who uphold the "thou shalt not lie with a man as with a woman" line probably simply haven't thought it through to the point where they realize that they are cherry-picking. At least, that's what I think in my more charitable moments.

People can't do wrong. If they do something that the scripture says not to....they claim.. "times have changed" or " its not really that big of a deal" possibly " well its not meant to be taken literally".
I'm not christian, but i know me and a bunch of other guys in my religion my age commit a certain sin. They all say its not biggie, i'll admit what i'm doing is evil. Maybe that makes me worse off since i acknowledge what i'm doing is wrong. Maybe one day i'll fix it......but most people will never take that approach.
I have seen paul saying women should keep their mouth shut ... but in honesty its not really a hell bound sin. but yeah i entirely see what you are saying.
Anyways, i half agree with your last statement.
You asked a question so you should expect an answer if you agree with it or not. But those people who you disagree with their actions, one has no right to impose their opinions on them unless they ask for them.
Off topic, but we got a guy here on my campus that just screams out bible versus..... and his sect of christianities view. I agree with him 80% of the time, but he still ticks me off....i didn't ask to talk religion with him, so why is he shoving it in my face.

There is a difference between purely Jewish law and universal law in the OT. Some of the laws were destined to be characteristic of Jews only and some are universal. (True for all people all time) It doesnt exactly take a Bible scholar to see the differences. Of what we read in the NT, ALL sexual sin is STILL forbidden. That is stated so many times in the NT I fail to see how there is still any debate today over it. Actually I do see, because a number of people are trying to justify their unGodly lifestyles by knowlingly confusing and clouding the Scriptures.
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. -James 1:12

Most are uneasy with the realization in the backs of their heads that Jesus preferred men to women and He & His posse took turns washing each others' feet & such. They transfer their discomfort over this nagging issue to others outside their group. It's classic Psyc 101.
Oh -- and Jerry Falwell was a repressed closet-case with a big mouth and a TV camera. [If it matters, I'm straight.]

Because people think the other parts are ridiculous, but homosexuality scares them and they are so brainwashed they can't accept anything other than what they are told to believe by their "Men of God". It's sad when you aren't able to have an original thought or formulate your own opinion.
