If someone came in contact with staph (through wresting, for example), how long would it take for the infection to show on the skin?

let me add to this- my husband is a wrestling coach and one of his wrestlers got a serious staff infection today at a camp- my hus. had to take him to the hospital. There is no open wound. If any other kid gets it, how long before it shows...?

Wound infections generally show up 2 or more days after the injury or surgery. The signs of a wound infection (redness, pain, swelling, and warmth) are similar to those found in cellulitis. A wound infection may be accompanied by fever and a generally ill feeling. Pus or a cloudy fluid can drain from the wound and a yellow crust (like that in impetigo) can develop. If you think you have a wound infection after surgery, or you have a serious wound that seems to be infected, call your doctor.

staph lives on our skin, so any break in the skin can result in a staph infection if it isn't properly cleaned and bandaged.
You can start to see redness and swelling in as little as an hour after a deep wound, a shallow wound maybe four hours. If there was no break in the skin, it isn't staph infection. And you can't just catch staph, you already have it, it isn't a problem unless you have a wound.

Unless you had an open wound you probably won't get it. Also everyone has staph in their body. Staph is what causes acne and boils etc.
