It depends upon your credit card issuer. If it's not too far over the limit, when the utility asks for authorization of the charge, your issuer can authorize the credit, sending you over the limit. However, they can also charge you an overlimit fee which could make the charge on your utility bill cost you an "additional arm and leg" other than the utility costs.

Is there NOT somewhere else you can get or borrow $100 dollars for your utilities? What if you don't just pay the bill for the month and pay it the next month when you have the funds? Unless you have recieved a termination notice, they are NOT going to just shut off your electricity without notice. Or are you in more dire straits than you are letting on? Perhaps time to find a cheaper place? Get a second job?

You can call the credit card company and ask that your limit be increased. They'll usually do it unless you have been late with the payments. Otherwise, you're going to get socked with multiple fees, and it will show up on your credit report, affecting your score. If the person at the credit company won't help, ask to speak to a supervisor and keep going up the chain until they say yes.
