I have started jogging lately to lose weight and my knees are killing me. Is there anything I can do to help or should I consult a DR? I have been walking/jogging about 5 times a week.

Try some Glucosamine-Chondroitin-MSM tablets, and give your knees more of a rest between workouts. NSAIDs like Alleve and Motrin will relieve your pain, but may allow you to do more damage to your inflamed joints since they won't hurt as much. Try a natural antiinflammatory like Devils Claw herb or MonaVie juice.

Stop jogging and cunsult an orthopedic sugeon to find out the reason for your pain. They may not want you to do excessive exercises.jogging is a high impact work out prticularly on your joints, knee, back, hips, ect.even riding a recumbant bike could aggravate your knees along with stairs.Get x-rays and or an MRI so the doc can see whats' wrong.Sound like a torn cartiladge or miniscus, but jogging, walking even are very painful, as I have been their with my knees.I still can not exercise to loose weight as my knees sometimes give out and the pain is almost unbearable.Good Luck and make sure you go to the best doc in your area?

It sounds like you should not jog. Probably you injured your knees a long time ago, and now it's going to be pain or worse for you. Try to find another form of exercise that has low orno impact on your knees - like walking vigorously, swimming, using a good elipitcal machine. Are you ready for a knee replacement operation? Didn't think so. So, find other ways to work out.

try getting new shoes first...take an NSAID before you run/jog and learn to run/jog the correct way. (some people turn their feet out, which turns their knees out and causes problems. If you have the correct shoes, it should take care of some of the pain.)

I would recommend seeing your doctor to have them evaluate this situation further. One thing the dr may check for is the possibility of arthritis or even infection as a possibility.
