I (a fundie) do empathize with the gay situation. I used to drink to excess. All my friends and I knew that what we were doing was wrong - that we should stop. Eventually, with God's help I did. I think it was easier for me to stop drinking than it is for a gay person to go straight - they're both sins. They're both wrong. But there are no big pressure groups trying to convince alcohol abusers that what they do needs to be considered acceptable. There are no parades or political action groups trying to have laws passed making drunken driving legal - or to force children in school to "learn" to be tolerant of alcoholism and that it isn't a "wrong" thing, just a different way of life. If all that had existed, I might have joined one of those groups and still be drinking - or be dead by now.
I cannot think of another sin that there is so much pressure placed on those who are sinning to NOT recognize their sin and seek help.

I do empathize with the situation. As a Christian I am taught to love above all things before I judge.
I also believe in Nature/Nurture (meaning you can be born a certain way and your upbringing is also a result of who you are as a person).
I think above all, the people who find homosexuality to be a plague so to say are the ones who really make life difficult to live with. Take the church that states "God Hates Fags" for instance. The make it seem like we're supposed to condem people who have these feelings and not try to understand them for what they are....God's creation.

According to what I learned through studying the Bible all sins are equal. The only unforgiveable sin is denying God. According to this homosexuality is no worse than sex before marriage or cheating on your spouse which the majority of Christians do at some point in their life.
Personally I do not agree with much of the Bible. It is a sexist book written by man.
I have known many homosexuals... and I ask the question, "why would anyone choose a life that would make life harder than it already is?" I can't think of anyone in their right mind that would. So either they aren't in their right mind or it truely isn't a choose! Either way - how can they be held accountable? And who are we to judge?

I think it's awful. I can't imagine being told that it is a sin to be the person I feel I was created to be. I can't imagine having to completely abandon my flesh. There are homosexuals who have supposedly recovered, but that's hard to believe. Not all, but most homosexuals I've known definitely seem like they were born with a little extra of whichever chromosome. So how do change the way you were made? You can't. You just deny yourself. The only experience I have with this is my alcoholism, sober 16 years now. But I feel like a heel even suggesting that that can be compared to one's entire makeup. I definitely sympathize with them. And I'm sorry so many people have placed such an emphasis on THAT sin. It's not so much greater than the others. They are welcome anytime in my church, but more importantly, in front of Jesus wherever they are. I know he would hang out with them.

I find the views of a lot of "Christians" here to be really fascinating, especially since I put a question about the "GAY SITUATION" to the test about a week ago, and a lot of people here answered it without hesitation.
I asked if they knew in an attempt to "become straight", that a gay man or a lesbian was getting married to someone of the opposite sex in their immediate family or to another relative, would they approve?
99% of the answers were all emphatic "NO'S", with comments ranging from "It would be a lie and deceptive in the eyes of God" to "that would be unnatural, and I would have to protest against it."
Unfortunately, whatever the Bible says, and no matter how 'Christian' you might believe yourself to be, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
It's like a white friend of mine who was once a Southern Baptist, who was completely disowned by his devoutly religious family. Why? Because he was gay? No, because the girl he chose to marry and have children with was ASIAN. I don't seem to recall reading anything in the Book of Anybody about "Thou shalt not lie with a woman not of your race." Or maybe someone here can cough up some Scripture that explicitly points out where Jesus spoke against that, too.
In a lot of cases, I have to say I feel that some so-called 'Christians' need my pity more than they need to pity me.

I wonder why Christians judge them so harshly. Eating shellfish is an abomination to God, and thinking that you can deserve heaven after swearing off homosexuality is not the Gospel or Biblical.
I believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That makes me saved. And homosexuality is yet another sin to add to the books of those who live on Earth. It does not prevent salvation, and it does not make God's word void.

Of course I empathize. I understand the problem completely. But you know, everyone struggles with sin, everyone, without exception. It's not just being gay that is a sin in God's eyes. I have my share of sins as well.

I am Christian, and need Jesus' forgiveness daily. I think maybe more than talking about what is a sin and what isn't. lets talk about relationship with God our father. first off basic born again mentality states we are all sinners and our righteousness is filthy rags compared to His Holiness. All have sinned, all deserve death, but he sent his Son to pay our sin debt. I know we all fall short. all of us. and its the blood of Jesus that washes us clean. Being Gay, being spiteful, being unforgiving, being greedy, being an adulterer, i know scriptures in both old and new while inspired word of God have been twisted in many ways over the centuries, modern church believes in the gifts of the spirit, to prophesy, and yet 400 years ago they burn anyone with a word of knowledge at the stake and called them witches. so while there is an ultimate truth we must pend time searching for it, and praying. but God loves all.

Yes but there are other burdens in life like a temper and not being able to kill people. If murder wasnt against the law, I probably would be doing it 3 times a week because there are always people that anger me.
Its frustrating but I have to be content with not killing the people that bother me as does the person who believes they are born homosexual has to repent and stay away from that life.

Listen- Leviticus says gays are wrong. but it also says that if a man dies, the brother can take the wife. It also says that a woman should be stoned to death for adultery and so on. Then Paul says homosexuality is wrong. But he also says that women should keep their heads covered at all times and that they should never speak in church. So why do people take the anti- homosexual part and throw out the other parts?
God doesn't say that homosexuals are wrong. The bible does. The bible is written by men. Men are foolish.
