You can determine a true religion on the teachings and doctrine of that certain religion. If it is on the basis of the words on the bible, the religion may be true but if its teachings are not base on the bible, it is false religion.

i am coptic orthodox , converting from albanian orthodox to catholic , isnt ok if it is by force but remember that we are Christians we believe in God and that Jesus christ is our savior , if u still follow the teachings of Jesus , then please read the new testament , and u will find that Jesus said many times that he is the way and he is the life , and we just need to follow him , in the bible u will find that Jesus is the ONLY truth and the only way , u will not need another book or another religion ,ok many other religions have good teachings
but not like christianity , and according to christ's teachings u cant believe a little bit of every thing , trust me it will not work
if u believe in christ and understand him and his teachings u will not need any other religion , pray and read the bible and any doubts about ur faith go to church and ask the priest , and if u want to ask me about any thing my email is justbassem@yahoo.com , i allow IM and emailing so dont worry
please please read the bible let it be ur base and trust me u will be satisfied with it.
because before u leave christianity , u have to try to know it well first then decide what u r going to do
God be with u

I guess that all depends upon what you thing the ultimate goal is.
If your goal is to have lack of conflict here on earth, feel good about how you treat others (based on secular opinions of what is good and what is not), then go ahead and take a bit here and a bit there - don't accept any of the parts that might offend someone. Do lots of nice deeds for people, practice random acts of kindness and all that...... and make sure you're buried in an asbestos suit. It'll be warm where you're going.
If instead, your goal is reconciliation with God, then read and follow the bible - no, not the Catholic catechism (it contradicts ALOT of the bible), not a RELIGION, but THE BIBLE.

What is religion? Is it not the set of beliefs and doctrine that are of God?
Each religion believes there is a different god (gods, or no gods). They define their differences by how they define their god and his teachings (his directions to us). They are all, therefore, mutually exclusive. There is only one truth about God and his teachings. Isn't the object to find the right one -- the truth?
There is a saying, "Prove all things, hold to that which is good." Very good words to live by, especially in regards to religion. In other words, it is not sufficient to just believe in whatever you want -- that would not help anyone to live better lives.
You first task, ("should you decide to accept it"), is to prove whether or not there is a God.
Two of my favorite proofs are: 1) proof from entropy, and 2) proof from law.
Briefly:
1) It is known in the scientific community that the universe is deteriorating, becoming more disorderly. Therefore, it must have been more orderly in its initial state -- and therefore HAD an initial state. Order does not come from disorder (in other words, the universe, in a disorderly state, cannot form or generate an orderly state. Order is the product of intelligence and the power to enact it -- God
2) The universe is governed by laws -- law of gravity, law of inertia, etc.. These laws are external (above, outside) the universe -- because the universe could not come into existence without a law that predetermined how it was to come to exist. Laws are a product of an orderly mind, and power -- God.
Next, prove that those directions that claim they are from God, really are (Bible, Qur'an, Book of Mormon, etc.).
The Bible offers prophecy as proof that God is God and that the Bible is his Word. Comparing completed prophecies with history can corroborate this.
The purpose of the Bible is to teach us the right way to live -- how to have happy, prosperous lives.
Practicing (or believing) in multiple religions, would be confusion -- not really adhering to any god. It would amount to doing you own thing without regard to the truth or what is right. It would not lead you to God or a fulfilling life.
The Bible, God's Word, teaches us things we would not be able to learn on our own. We are children, and children are not reliable sources for knowledge of the right way of life.
If there is a God, and there is a true and right way of life, then it matters what we believe, follow and practice. If there is no god, then it doesn't matter -- do as you like. But if you want to know and do the truth, ask God to guide and help you find it.

WOW! There is only one way to know what is right and that is to read a real (not Catholic) Holy Bible (I like New KJV) along with a good study Bible. Read and then re-read, call on the LORD to unblind you to what He wants you to know. Never rely on someone else to interpret the scriptures for you, let the Bible interpret the Bible. The Pope nor any other religious human can give to you the knowledge of God, like God can! Remember, religion doesn't define God, it "confines" Him. You don't need a man-made religion to have fellowship with the LORD. The Bible teaches that man is as frail as breath, why would anyone want to put their soul in the hand of a man . . . even one called the Pope. Don't believe in a little of this or a little of that - believe whole-hearted in God alone! The Bible is the best place to start your learning - Genesis to Revelation.
May God Bless You

What should you look for when trying to find a church?
The first is Christ-centred worship, the celebration of God for who He is and what He has done for us. A Biblically sound church places a high priority on praising God.
Second is quality Bible instruction. Does the church you are considering believe, honour, and teach God's Word in such a way that you understand the Bible and see how it applies to your life? Remember, you can't grow beyond what you know.
A third characteristic of a good church is fellowship - the sharing of the life of Christ among the members. This goes far beyond Sunday morning attendance or coffee and doughnuts in the fellowship hall. True fellowship occurs when we are involved in each other's lives - caring, encouraging, correcting, loving and sharing with one another. The church should provide us with a meaningful sense of belonging.
Fourth is the church's ministry of outreach. A church that wants to grow cannot be ingrown. There's nothing wrong with being a small church - as long as you are not a small-minded church. The church you identify with should provide you with opportunities to use your gifts and talents to touch other lives, emphasising the importance of sharing your faith in word and good deeds. In other words, the church's impact should extend well beyond its walls.
When you find a church where these priorities and experiences are regularly offered in an environment that's saturated in grace and charged with faith, you have found the right church. Join it! And don't ask what your church can do for you - ask what you can do for your church!

Here's how you know what to believe.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
If you don't trust in Jesus for your salvation then you will not be saved. As to which church or denomination you go to, as long as they teach the Bible, that's what matters. It isn't church membership that saves a person, it's a relationship with God through faith in Jesus that saves you.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
"would it be bad to believe a little bit of everything?"
Yes, it would be bad because only one thing can be right. Two things that say something different cannot both be right. Click on the Get Saved button @ http://www.angelfire.com/rock3/cornerstone0/ for more information.

There is nothing wrong with you! It is confusing to know what is the RIGHT religion!
I do not feel it should be made into such a BIG issue as it is in most every church I have attended!
God will not punish those who receive his word and follow his commandments. As long as they have made every attempt to live for him the best way possible!
Try not to let some of the influences you hear in church and else where effect you! Only God can pass judgement!
Just do what you can to be a spiritual soul who walks in his foot steps! May GOD BLESS YOU!

You need to visit different churches and see which one follows the Bible the closest. You need to study and pray for God to guide you to the right religion. You should attend the church that follows Bible principles. If you closely examine the religions you named you will notice some discrepancies between them and the Christian Bible. I still say continue living a good life and do not change that but still pray to God to help you find a the right religion.

The Bible is clear on what type of worship is acceptable to him, it takes more than just not cursing or not having pre marital sex & just being a good person in general - you have to dedicate your LIFE to him, doing his will-
Matthew 24:14 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come
So you must be one of those who preaches the good news outlines in the Bible.
You have to be no part of this world. Jesus said of his true followers: “They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.”—John 17:16. You must see where certain traditions, holidays & beliefs originate from instead
of just following the crowd, being like the world.
Jesus stated at Col. 2:8- perhaps there may be some man that will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ.” - This clearly shows that everything that would be brought up as a christian teaching would clearly not - we would need to sift out the untruths, this would require research on our part -
The Bible tells us at 1John 4:1 Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
A Christian is a footstep follower of Christ. Not only does he believe differently, but he also acts differently from the rest of the world. “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:35) It affects their family life, their relationship with one another and with those to whom they preach. It marks them as different from the old world.
More is required of a Christian. Said Christ: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or else hot. So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.”—Rev. 3:15, 16.-
We must stand firm & either be all for Christ or not, no where in between,
