Probably. I used to work with a guy that had a metal plate in his head and he always set off the metal detectors.

It could very well do so. Before you walk through the metal detector, tell airport security about your leg/plate.

My friend keeps setting off metal detectors, and all she's got is a mere pin in her arm. But once she shows the scar, they let her through after scanning her with the metal detector thing.

I broke my leg in November 2006 had metal plates and screws installed to hold everything together... I have been through three different airport scanners and haven't been stopped yet... If you are worried take a photo of your Xray....

probably not, but possibly.

My mom had lots of metal in her from various hip replacements; only at SeaTac airport did she ever set off any alarms, and she's flown numerous times.

Even if it does, once they narrow the metal down to a specific region with the hand-held units, and find nothing hidden in your clothes, they'll wave you through.

PS - Doctor certificates are useless - they still have to scan you, and terrorists can get doctors' notes, too.

It really depends on the detector.

I doubt it will, but it does happen.

They will use a wand to determine.
