We obviously know the Earth is much older so.. All the christians say that god told the writers what to write. So either a god told the writers the wrong thing or someone made it up. What do you think?

People are talking about the length of a day. If god is so powerful why would it take him so long to create everything. Thousands of years according to some.

I think it's funny people believe the rest of the crap in the bible. The whole bible can be proven wrong and people will still believe. Think about this, people say they have faith. Well they wouldn't have faith without the teachings of the bible. If the most of the bible was proven false then your faith would be based on wrong information,

You're assuming we know how old the earth is and science does not know for sure--they only have theories which suggest a very old earth based on interpretations of evolution and the developement of the universe and how long they suppose things would take to develop---you can't look at a rock and tell how old it is at all.... there's no tag or note buried with it to say if it's 6000 or 6 billion years old. According to the Bible and it's timeline of geneaology, God created the universe approximately 6000 years ago--the word "universe" by the way is a term made up of two words--"uni" meaning single and "verse" meaning a spoken sentence---which is pretty interesting that the word we use for the whole of creation is based on a word for a "single spoken sentence"----sound like anything from the Bible?
Read the book of Job, Chapter 38 when God asks Job: Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? The only real person who knows for sure is God or someone who was around when the universe began.
Not too long ago, scientists were supposing that the universe was only several hundred million years old and they keep changing their estimations so it's been getting older and older since then but how do they really know? they don't---they just have theories based on a evolutionary framework. Look at textbooks from 30-40 years ago and see how old they thought it was back then. Man' s "guesstimate" has been changing but the Bible has not.

There is a difference between a creative day and a 24 hour day. The earth was created in seven creative days. God gives us a clue as to about how long a creative day is, at 2 Pet 3:8.
" However, let this one fact not be escaping your notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and and a thousand years as one day."

Because there are about 365 days in a year, so one creative day would be 365 thousand years or longer, Each day was complete except for the seventh day he rested or stopped, so we are now still living in Gods day of rest. Which if you continue on in 2 Pet 3: 9, " God is not slow respecting his promise as some people consider slowness, but he is patient
with you because he does not desire any to be distroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Yet Jehovah's day will come as a thief in the night.

These time elements are in harmony with all the scientific evedence found as to the age of the earth. We don't know how old the earth was before God started to creat Adam and Eve or how long the two lived in the garden before they rebelled and were thrown out, it could have been thousands or millions of years, remember they had everlasting life which has no time limit. And so to very soon the earth will be transformed into a paridise as it was originally intened for as we a wait Dan 2:44 to be fullfilled very soon.

Sincerely yours,

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkay... AHEM... let's go through this ONE MORE TIME....

YOU are the Great and All-Powerful Wizard.

You suddenly hear your tummy rumble and say, "Hey, I'm HUNGRY! I want a bowl of CHILI to eat." Then, just as suddenly... **POOF** A huge bowl of chili appears before you, complete with saltines! WOO HOO!!! WOWEEEEE!!!

You start eating the chili when, about a minute later, along comes Mr. Science. Mr. Science looks at your chili and says, "Hey, that bowl of chili looks mighty interesting. May I take a sample to my labratory and run some tests?"

You say, "Don't mind at all... Here you go!"

Mr. Science takes it to his lab and starts testing it... finds it contains beans, meat, tomatoes, chili (of course), some other "stuff"... and then, as he reads the test results, Mr. Science starts to look very puzzled.

"What's the problem?" You ask.

"Well, I see the chili is made up of beans, meat, tomatoes, chili and some other stuff, but my test results on how OLD the chili is says that it is 6 BILLION YEARS OLD! How can this BE? Wasn't it only about one minute after you created it that I took my sample to test it?"

"Yes," you say knowingly. "But I like my chili well aged!"

"But it was only 1 minute old, not 6 BILLION YEARS old!" Mr. Science looks bewildered.

YOU look bemused and answer him, "Am I not the All-Powerful Wizard?"

"Yes," he answers.

"Then, if I WANT to, isn't is possible that the very INSTANT that I created that bowl of chili that it was CREATED ALREADY 6 Billion years old?"

"Ummmm...."

"If I can't do that, then I am not as All-Powerful as I am, right?"

"Ummmm..."

You smile... and crumble a few more saltines on top, and return to enjoying the chili.

Now... is the Earth 6,000 years old, or is it 6 BILLION... or 60 BILLION... or 6 TRILLION years old? If God is all-powerful, which He is, why couldn't He have created the earth to be however old the scientific instruments OR theories say it is at the instant that He created it? If you say He cannot, then you are LIMITING the unlimited, all-powerful God.

Regardless of what the Bible writers wrote... regardless of how many times it was translated... regardless of all this, the POINT of the Creation story is that... GOD is the CREATOR of the universe and all that is in it.

Now can I go back to my knitting? Have a blessed day!

The idea that Creation occurred 6,00 years ago is based upon the calculations of Archbishop James Ussher (4 Jan 1581 – 21 Mar 1656). Working backwards through the Bible (starting with known dates) he concluded that the earth was created on Sunday 23 October 4004 BC. John Lightfoot (1602-1675), Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University, who was a contemporary of Ussher, calculated that it occurred at 9 am on that day.

The Hebrew word "yom" which is translated as "day" in Genesis 1 is best translated as "a period of time". What period of time is meant is determined by the context of the passage.

God told the writers what to write and they did as they were told. The problem lies with the translation of and/or the understanding of what was written. That is from where all the arguments arise.

To me, science really doesn't know how old the world is either. They base their findings upon what they assume to be correct ideas, but you can find problems with their theories. An answer above shows some. Our atomic clocks are based upon the occulations of various atoms. Most of them are said to be correct for many thousands of years in the future. But none of us will be alive then to check it. Evolutionists say birds evolved from the dinos, but have yet to show any proof of that change--no dino has been found to have things like little wings growing out of their body. Yet we do know that there were flying dinos. So who do you believe?

When one really sits down and places the Bible and science in a test of credibility, any who are truely honest will have to conclude that both have valid arguments, but BOTH require FAITH to believe in them. Why? we simply do not know for certain!! None of us where there atthe beginning nor will be there at the end. Evolution and Christianity BOTH require faith.

I know I'll get blasted for this answer. Yet if anyone is honest they will have to agree with me.

No where does the Bible say how old the earth is. People have gotten out their calculators and added up the ages of people in the Bible and arrived at a figure that is around 6,000 years. Of course, they have to interpret the first chapter of Genesis in a particular way and then they have to assume that the lists of people's names don't have any gaps in them to get that figure.

Maybe the earth is around 6,000 years old and God created it with "apparent antiquity". After all He created Adam as a full grown man and not a baby that had to grow up. But whether that is the case or not, the Bible doesn't come out and say how old the earth is. Different interpreters come up with different ages. One interpretation is that there is an unknown gap between verses 1 & 2 of Genesis one and that the earth "became" formless and void after some catastrophe related to Satan.

What the Bible DOES clearly teach is that ALL have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. That the wages of sin are death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus for all who turn from their sins and put their trust in Him.

The earth slows down 1 second every 10 months add that number to just 1 million years and the earth would rotate around the sun so fast that it would fly out of it's orbit.
The moon gets 1/8th of an inch away from earth every year. add that number to just 1 million years and we have tidal waves so big that they wipe out all the land masses twice a day. These numbers are scientific facts. Research them for yourself. Then come back and explain to me how the earth is 4.5 billion years old as you say.

I have answered this question several times already, and I assume that you are the same person who's asking this.

Anyways, Earth is DEFINITELY NOT 6,000 years old. If that was the case, then the world may be not as round as what we know today, universally speaking.

Religions are of course have different interpretations and they should not be linked to science. Eventhough I respect both institutions, when regarding to the worldly affairs, I listen more to science. And when it comes to my spiritual needs, my faith is the one answering.

How do you know the earth is older? Were you there 6,000 years ago? Do you have writings that document civilizations beyond then?

Or did someone just tell you the earth is millions of years old and you said, "Oh, sure. It must be." What research can you show us that the earth is more than 6,000 years old?
