I can totally relate to that! I HATE takeoffs and landings and my husband worked for a major airlines for 35 years, so we could fly for almost free. In all those years, though, I NEVER became a relaxed flyer. There is help, though- go to : www.fearofflyinghelp.com
and good luck- you're gonna LOVE Australia, mate!

Take something that will get your attention away from the plane.Bring a dvd player and watch movies. Maybe a mobile game system (DS lite/ PSP/Gameboy). You should be flying on a B 747 which is a really big plane. Very smooth in flight. Also the plane may have a tv in the head rest so you could watch something on there.

oh yes a statistics lesson! Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million

Don't forget to show me your pictures you take from Australia have a nice trip!! :P

Just think about being in a metal tube 35,000 feet above the earth and moving at around 550 miles per hour. There is nothing holding the plane in the air except the engines. If they fail - and they might - the plane will fall from the sky and hit the ground with burning jet fuel everywhere.

Either that, or suck it up and fly in the plane like everyone else with no complaints or irrational fears.

The choice is up to you and you alone. If your parents know you have an irrational fear of flying, they may allow you to stay with someone while they go to Australia - or they may get you the psychological help you need.

Here are a couple of books that have helped many people:

Flying Without Fear by Duane Brown

The Fearless Flier's Handbook: Learning to Beat the Fear of Flying with the Experts from the Qantas Clinic by Debbie Seaman

Check them out on www.amzon.com

Also, since you report that your fear is so intense even after several flights, you may benefit from the help of a therapist skilled in the treatment of anxiety. Learning relaxation skills and fear reduction techniques are very effective means of controlling intense anxieties by putting control of your feelings and reactions in your hands.

The combination of learning objective facts and effective self-control can go a long way toward your goal of a relaxed and pleasant flight.

Good luck and enjoy your visit to Australia. I envy you! By the way, Qantas is the major Australian international air carrier. Here's a bit of trivia you can impress your friends and family with: The name Qantas is a contraction of "Queensland and Northern Territory Air Service". :oD

Pick a very windy day, and go to the airport. Watch the incoming planes; they'll wobble slightly in the wind as they land, but in general you'll see that the wobble is very insignificant compared to the rest of the plane's motion.

That little wobble you watch as a spectator is what feels so upsetting on the inside - but it's really nothing. Watching the planes take off and land may help put it in better context.

Just dont think about the worst that can happen, look at the scenary and forget everything, I am 13 and I have flown across the world many times, the first time I got really nervous nad I didn't want to go, But once you get used to it, it gets kind of fun, just go to sleep.

Always sit in the tail section. Thats always the part you see sticking out from the ground or from the sides of mountains after the crash.

mix sleeping pills with alchohol and die in your seat before take off. then have someone revive you during the flight. before landing, take more sleeping pills and alchohol and die after you land. have someone revive you when its time to leave.
