Apparently there's alot of talk about microwaving formula/breastmilk. It's supposed to radiate the liquid and kill all of the nutrients. I ask how this is possible when microwaves don't use radiation, they use lite waves at high frequencies.

There's also the myth about them cooking from the inside out, but that can be disproven by sticking a big piece of red meat in the micrwave and under cooking it (The outside is cooked and the inside is raw as ever).

Breastmilk can be microwaved

7 years ago i was told you should heat it by heating water and placing it in the pot of hot water. but now, i looked some links up and found that this is untrue that it's not found to change proteins in the milk.

CAUTION: Never microwave breastmilk. Microwaving can cause severe burns to baby’s
mouth from hot spots that develop in the milk during microwaving. Microwaving can also change the composition of breastmilk.

Well, I don't think that microwaving bothers formula, except for the the hotspots. Breastmilk on the otherhand, is full of living organisms. While I would think that microwaving would not completely ruin breastmilk, it could possibly destroy the antibodies we want for our babies. However, I think that microwaved breastmilk would still be better for baby than formula because it is digested so much easier in baby tummies.

One of the main reasons to NOT micro breastmilk/formula is it can cause hot spots and burn an infant... It's better to warm the formula/breastmilk in hot water.. It doesn't take that long and it's safer.. I've also heard the kills nutrients, but I wouldn't do it anyway...

I wouldn't say the microwave harms formula other then the potential of creating hot spots but with breastmilk it is of a different consistency and make-up to formula. I'm no scientist but I would prefer to be safe then sorry.

I microwaved my son's formula, and we've never had a problem with it. You just have to shake it well so there's no hot spots.

u just have to be sure u shake it well , and make sure its not too hot then shake again....... never burned a baby yet................. some dr s say there is no need to heat a bottle, just give it to them cold, however my daughter would not drink it cold. Now about breast milk im not sure I dont breastfeed, my meds would not be good for baby

Since you only warm it up for about 20 seconds. No. Now if you were to cook it forever, then probably!

No; the whole "destroying nutrients" is totally ridiculous. Heat is heat, whether it is generated by radio waves, or from a flame or coil on a stove.
