if you really believed in the Bible, you wouldn't need to ask the question.

I believe it because the bible says it!

As for your argument that the earth day didn't come until the 4th day, so what. If God created the heavens and the earth, then he, like any good architect, would have KNOWN how long a day going to be before he started the project.

As for the argument that a "day" on Venus is 243 earth days, again, so what. God didn't create life on Venus nor was he explaining his creation to Venutians through the story in Genesis. If God created us in his image, he would have known how to communicate with us and he would have used words we could comprehend.

As for the 6,000 years, I don't think I've ever seen something in the bible that says how much time elasped between the seventh day when he rested and the time when Adam and Eve were forced to leave the garden. ...and I recall some good arguments suggesting that the bible acknowledges some missing information in the timeline prior to Abraham...who knows how much is missing.

...and then there is 2 Peter 3:8 "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." This suggests that God doesn't measure time the way humans of that day (and this day) do. Taken literally, this could mean that the six days are really another six thousand years added to the time line (one thousand years per day).

Again, I believe it because the bible says it...but I don't discount the possibility that my understanding of the what God meant by "day" was colored by my ability to understand the mind of God. Most importantly, it doesn't have any effect on my belief...the important part is that God created everything, how many hours it took isn't important!

The earth was in existence from the 1st day.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth;
Gen 1:2 and the earth being without form and empty, and darkness on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moving gently on the face of the waters,
Gen 1:3 then God said, Let light be! And there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good, and God separated between the light and darkness.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light, Day. And He called the darkness, Night. And there was evening, and there was morning the first day.

The Bible never claims that the earth is 6000 years old. That was a Catholic cleric back in the Middle Ages. I have NO idea why fundamentalists insist the Catholics are correct in this matter.
I see billions of years between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.

The Hebrew word used in Genesis is Yom and refers to a 24 hour day. Personally (and don't let the evolutionists hear this ) I do not see thatt the young eart old earth debate has anything to do with our salvation But it does give them an excuse to try to stereotype us and argue about the incidentals rather than the important.

Your argument is just part of what these proponents of the 6000 age ignore.

They also ignore that today we are in God's seventh creative day, and that Paul in Hebrews shows this seventh day to be unfinished. Since this shall include even the thousandth year reign of Christ, there is no way the earth can be 6000 years old.

In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began. Titus 1:2

God can't lie so therefore the earth was created in six literal days.

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Gen. 2:1-2

Who are you going to trust a bunch of men who think then know it all or God who can't lie?

5th Age = 1,960 years = Times
4th Age = 19,600 years = A time
3rd Age = 196,000 years = A time
2nd Age = 1,960,000 years = A time
1st Age = 19,600,000 years = A time.

There are many debates regarding how long really God created everything. If you really believe in God, it doesn't matter how long or short He created it.
The most important thing is to follow His guidelines in daily living, so that in due time we will be worthy enough to be with Him. Then we can ask Him personally How every thing really started.

The use of the word "day" is a matter of convenience and mistranslation. The original word may be more closely translated as "cycle" or "epoch". Does it make more sense now?
