Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

Pope Benedict XVI is under fire again, after issuing a new document reaffirming the traditional doctrine that the Catholic Church is the one true apostolic church — the only one instituted by Jesus Christ.

According to the doctrine, Protestant denominations are not strictly churches but "ecclesial communities" because they lack valid priestly orders and sacraments.

Just from reading the first two paragraphs, the Pope is sadly mistaken. Where in the bible does it say that the Catholic Church was instituted by Jesus and where does it say that Jesus instituted priestly orders. And I can't believe that Catholics actually believe that the pope is infallible. The only infallible one is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The pope is human being capable of sinning which he does in thought and speech as Im sure he gets upset and that alone leads you think and say things that are not so Chrisitan. Just that alone makes him INFALLIBLE ( I think I spelled it right..anywho)...

If one studies the church reform you will find many many errors with the Catholic Church and that they are not all what they think their cracked up to be. All anyone has to do is study church reform!!!!

Now, Im not saying everything in the Catholic Church is bad or wrong...I grew up Catholic and because of the church my faith is built on strong and sound foundation. I no longer go to a Catholic Church and prefer a non-denomination church that is stictly bible based.

I believe he said that only Catholics were going to heaven. I got news for him. He is a man in a robe that was selected by other men in robes. Fancy robes to boot. They love their high and mighty place of position and have many ceremonies to be in and among large numbers of people to see their religious duties and actions.

This story sounds familiar. It did not turn out to well for the Pharisees either.

The problem with any organized religion is that there are people involved. Making rules and complicating what Jesus did on the cross. John 3:16 is perfectly clear to me. It does not say,"see also what the current pope says."

He just made himself a DOPE.

Catholic religion is not all bad, so do not get me wrong at all. I know a some that have great faith and love the Lord in the right way. One needs to be cautious the obstacles a person of God puts in the way of others. There is a Holy Spirit for that to convict and guide to God.

The pope is reiterating the belief that the Catholic church is the church which can trace its history and traditions back to the apostles, called "apostolic succession" also, that the Roman Catholic Church is the church containing the "fullness" of truth concerning salvation and is the one church truly established by Christ and the Apostles. The Roman Catholic Church contains the full seven sacraments (some denomonations don't) and also the Papacy or Seat of Peter, which they believe indicates a special authority. I also agree with Imacatholic.

I could not believe the gall of that man
Something about him is strange
How is far out
I don't like it at all, that is why we left the Roman Catholic Church and came to America to be free
It is not right and a lot of the religions are telling him so
good people are all over this world, he is not a Jew and not God's chosen people

What did he say? the thing about the protestants going to Hell?

That's always been the stance of the Catholic church...protestants don't have the apostlic succession, therefore everything they do is in vain...their blessings, priests, communion, etc. are all in vain because they're not appointed by a bishop(or cardinal, arch bishop, or the pope) of the Catholic church, and therefore not by Jesus.

Seriously, that what they believe!

Are you referring to his statement that only Catholics are real Christians because only they have apostolic succession going back to St Peter?

It sounds like all the noises that the Catholic Church has been making about understanding between faiths were just window dressing.
