I think if the puppy grows up with the cats, the puppy will learn to respect, not kill the cats.I dont think jack russells are inherently in danger of going after a cat & causing harm to them.I personally have had a puppy & an older cat at the same time -the puppy grew up with much respect for the cats.Same with my jrts that I have now as an adult.
Id say relax & go about adding to your household with the same senseibility that you would when adding any other cat or dog to your current pet population.

More than likely growing up with them she'll be fine, and cats can hold their own, especially against a smaller dog. I have a larger mix jack russell, we brought her home at 6 months old already and she tries to play with the cat, but that's about it. And the cat jus kinda meows and hisses at her and she backs off. She doesn't seem very aggressive, but I guess every dog is different. I would say give it a try, especially with a puppy as their personality can be molded by your environment.

The breeding history shows that JRTs were bred to hunt small animals like cats. But do not judge a dog by it's breed, every dog is different and should be treated as such.

Try bringing the puppy over for a play date and see how she reacts. If the dog starts barking and lunging at the cat, the this is not the dog for you. If the dog is interested, but not trying to attack the cat, then she might be a great pet.

Good luck.

Well my sister had a jack russell that was fine with cats she would chase if they ran but she wouldn't go after them to kill them. Then she had puppies and my parents kept one of her pups he will kill cats and any other little animal...gophers ect...the thing is he wasn't raised around cats, they just had one outdoor cat that came around once in awhile. I know lots of people who own well behaved jrt that are raised with a cat and are totally fine. As long as you keep an eye on your new pup and I would recommend some obedience classes since jrt are pretty stubborn little dogs.

Jack Russels are known NOT to get along well with cats. I wold pick a breed that is known to get along better with other animals. Otherwise, you risk upsetting your cats. I think you can train them to get along, but Jack Russels are high energy and you'd be working against genetics.

All puppies nip! no ,matter what breed.

You can get a rescue dog for less than $1000.

Most rescue puppies are around 130 to cover the cost of vaccination

Adult rescue dogs are around 200

Elderly dogs are even cheaper
NEVER BUY FROM A PET STORE.

Getting adult dog you'll already know whether abit about its history
Breeder charge far too much!

A young pup that is raised with cats will get along fine with them- You will have to make sure that your cats don't beat the heck out of the pup for the first few days.

Here is a site that may help. It says not to trust with non-canine pets.
