HI first study anatomy physiology chemistry math do well in all very competitive. If you want to work with wounded soldiers Surgeon,or Emergency medicine is the most obvious choice. Going thru the military for medical training is good option(you don't owe a fortune when your done, have to serve a number of years however when you could be making more as a civie)The best medical college is the one you can get into! Stanford,Harvard are two of the tops. Its hard work but worth it ,make sure its a calling and not something you are talking lightly being a Physician is a lifestyle your life is truly not your own> good luck

There is a School of the Uniformed Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Essentially it is a medical school which trains doctors for our military. Sort of a West Point for military M.D.s. You need to contact a recruiter of any of the branches of the Armed Forces you are interested in. Since you mentioned treating the injured soldiers, you are thinking of becoming a member of the Army Medical Corps or the Navy Medical Corps (the Marines don't have their own doctors. The Navy provides them). Ask the recruiter to put you in touch with their officer recruitment program. That individual can guide you on the process of applying for, and gaining admission to, the school I mentioned above.
While you are waiting for all this to take place, you might check with hospitals in your area and see if they use volunteers in their facilities. That way you will get "up close and personal" with things like blood and trauma. You might find out you won't really like that.
Good luck.

This is very admirable. There are actually a few programs that will help you with this goal. If you qualify there are some programs through ROTC and the military that will pay for your college and medical school if you sign a contract to be a doctor with the military for an extended amount of time.. they have the same program for Lawyers too. I would go and talk with a COLLEGE ROTC recruiter.. NOT a regular one,, they'll shoot you a lot of junk.. or talk with a Military Doctor and they'll surely know about the program,,, Good luck

Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps ranks are different than those used by the Navy and Coast Guard. In the Army, physicians begin as Interns with rank Captian. I the Navy, Interns are called Leuitenant. Once board certified in a speciality, they become Majors and LT. Commanders, respectively. I think an Army physician/surgeon would be your best bet as you'd wind up in a MASH unit if you want. Overall though, the Navy is a much better service in which to be a physician.

Why do you think that after you have qualified you there will be injured soldiers you will need to attend to? Does that mean that there will always be war where you are? It is strange but if you lived in most countries of the world, this would not be even be a consideration, since most countries just want to live in peace.

I think you want to be a field medic. The Docs that are right their with the injured on the front line. A field surgeon might be the other name for it too. Hope this helps.
