By "solution" I assume you mean, "how do we 'stop' the flow of illegals?" I'm not sure it's possible.

It will take a combination of changes to the overall process.

I would start with clarifying the application process. Not, necessarily streamlining it, or 'fast tracking' it, but, training INS officials to do a better job of accurately moving applications forward.

Along with the application process, I would insist that law enforcement agencies enforce current laws and ensure complete deportation of illegals when warranted. No Amnesty!

Something has to be done with respect to businesses who capitalize on the plight of the foreign worker. Severe penalties need to be handed out to companies who (knowingly or un-knowingly) hire illegal workers.

Lastly, securing our boarders is long overdue. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but, an impenetrable wall needs to be constructed, without concern for cost, along the entire Mexican boarder. Why Mexico when Canada is a sieve too? Simple. The damage being done to our Nation is at the hands of illegal Mexicans, not our Canadian neighbors.

Start with these four proposals and I am certain the U.S. can begin to solve the illegal immigration problem. Begin I say. It will take a lot more than this... but it's a start.

To all the people who blame the employers - I own a business in LA county, anyone can go to the DMV with enough cash and get a legitimate Ca Drivers License. The current cost is about $500.00 to the "right" DMV employee. Next they go to Mac Arthur park and buy the best fake social security card you've ever seen. Once an employee gets into the work force the laws are all on their side. I feel that the government has been overlooking this for years so that the aliens and the employer will pay payroll and income taxes and contribute money to Social Security without the possibility of ever collecting.

This is a big mess! It has been going on for many years now, I can't remember who said it, but a Mexican National stated, " We will take over your county with out firing a shot!" He was correct, for this is what has happened and is constantly getting worse. Take a note of the number of radio stations in Spanish now...there used to be around four or five. Now there are over 18 radio stations only speaking in Spanish. Take a look at the employment adds, over half of the opening require that you speak Spanish to get hired. Take a look at the guy driving next to you on the freeway...This is not a problem of being racial, this is a fact that ILLEGAL Aliens are infiltrating our country. This would be the same problem even if they were Canadian, or Europeans! As for an answer? I am lost...

I think we already know whats going to happen. We're going to cut off jobs to illegal aliens and some will go home. But theres still the 1.7 million mexicans who try to come here illegally, and the 500,000 that make it through will be caught and deported. We just need to make it known that we support deportation and we need the mechanism in place. Deportation is inevitable, mexico is getting worse and the population isn't going to diminish any time soon.
In a few years these illegal aliens are gonna get spanked and sent back so that law abiding legal immigrants can become Americans.

Sorry, I disagree with you.

The solution is to secure the borders with more Border Patrol. Require local police departments that are accepting any Federal funds to hold any illegals they pull over or arrest, even for something as minor as a traffic ticket, for ICE. Fund ICE to the point where they have the personnel to pull this off. Make penalties for hiring an illegal alien heavy fine and Prison time. Make an example of some employers, lets see some perp walks on TV. Consider a national ID card.

I have little sympathy for as one other poster stated, "line cutters". Mexico should see its legal immigrant quota drop to zero for a decade as punishment and the quota for Africa, Asia, and Europe raised.

I'd be on board with a plan like that. As long as you add a visa-tracking system and workplace verification.

However, to all the people who are screaming "Build a wall!", a wall seems like a laughable solution to the problem of illegal immigration. A big steel band-aid. A large percentage of illegal immigrants are over-staying visas so a wall won't matter much to those people. As well as everytime you build a portion of fence the flow of illegals just shifts to an un-walled section of fence. So it seems like a giant waste of money to even bother with it. Workplace verification is the only way to stem illegal immigration.

Well, it's a widespread problem, No way around deportation, sorry. They had a choice before they came, they could have done it the legal way, so our government knows who they are, they'e criminal backround if they have one, things like that. I have no problem with them as long as they're legal, which means our government knows who they are, they're documented to be here. They should come here legally, and go to work, not abuse the welfare system that us americans have paid in for for the ones who really do need it. If your illegal, go home and apply legally, by all means. You seem like a very nice person, if you have a clean record, they'll approve you to come back the right way. These illegals are going to have it very hard here one day because here in Ohio and some other states now, you MUST prove where you went to school too, even if you didn't graduate, and they started that in a town here that is flowing with immigrants, to weed out the illegal ones. A birth certificate and all of that isn't cutting it for a job around here. I wouldn't want to be illegal and have to fear being yanked up and threw god only knows where at any time, living with that fear would be like living only half of my life. Please understand though, I'm only against illegals, of any creed, not just Mexicans, but I have no problem with the ones who come here the right way. If that's you in the picture, your young, if your illegal, you have plenty of time to get yourself legal, and not have to worry the rest of your life about these issues. Thanks for listening

The borders have to be secured, and also the ports, because without that there will be a continual flood of people.

If the flood of illegals can be stopped, then it may be more economical not to be trying to track down the ones that got in before the door closed.

One of the things Congress is considering is to require everyone in the USA to carry a "right to work card" ... if you don't have it, you cannot get a job in the USA.

Problem is with messed up data bases. Social Security Administration says 4-5% of the people in the data bases will be wrongly labeled as illegals when they are really Americans ... you do the math ... 150 million workers ... that means 7.5 million will be falsely labeled as bad aliens. Now from what I have seen of GAO reports on SSA, I think 4-5% is much lower estimate thatn reality.

So if there was to be mass deportation
along with whatever number of illegals did not have fake ids, there would be several million citizens deported, who did nothing wrong, because the government records on them had lots of errors
and the illegals with fake ids would get to stay

We need to finish building the fence and bulk up our border patrols,we need to punish the job owners for hiring them and have them pay a steep fine and if its their second offense jail time.We need to change the law that if they have a child in this country they are legal. Deport all illegals out of the country and make it tougher from them to come into the country. If they really want to be here make them fight through all the paperwork like others have done.I would have more respect for them if they actually tried to legally go about coming to this country.
