I just started shopping for some HD TVs so I am a novice, but I will explain what I have learned so far.

1080P is the best resolution it is native HD 1080 pixels resolution. 1080i would be an interpolated, resampled, upsampled, picture... taken from a lower quality signal like a standard DVD and upsampled to 1080 pixels... or the reverse, maybe it is an HD DVD signal that is 1080P downsampled to 1080i on your 720P HD TV.

You will find many TV's that have a native resolution of 720P can do the 1080i resoution.

The clearest and most expensive TV's are 1080P.

1080 is your hdtv quality!!! you don't have to do anything if you hook up your ps3 to the hdmi connection!!!:D most of the time the tv will do an automatic change to 480 to 1080 when you have your ps3 hook up using an hdmi connection!!!

ok...in the ps3 menu one of the option is display option. Plug your hdmi cable into ps3 and tv of course, then change the settings on your ps3, and make the default setting 1080p or 1080i. Whatever your tvs highest resoultion is. Then, if a game supports that resolution, it will automatically use that resolution.
