Motel is the blending of Motor Hotel. It is a hotel marketing or catering to people traveling by vehicle. This usually means easy parking, usually a parking place right in front of your motel room door that doesn't have a big luxurious lobby. Usually a fairly small place, and easy to find on highways.

Hostel - marketing to young people who want to see the world. They provide cheap lodging, compared to many other options. Usually a lot of shared space. From a common kitchen and common bathroom, to you pay for a bed and their are 8 beds in the room. Most of the time a hostel has that set up, 8 people in the room, but some can sell some private rooms, usually still sharing a bathroom. Sometimes they are called youth hostels or backpackers hostels.

Inn is a term that goes back to medieval Britain. You could only travel so far in a day, so by dark you'd need a place to stay even if you were still in the middle of nowhere. They'd provide everything at an Inn, room, food, alcohol, entertainment. An Inn was usually a hotel with a pub and served food. Now in North America it is used usually marketing that the coffee is always on, and they have a free breakfast and they are set up with a eating area for inn clients only. It is not a restaurant as they don't sell to the public, just free breakfast items for guests. Some of the better ones have snacks at other times.

Because of the differences with other answers, I have included samples of 2 inns and on hostels. Feel free to check out the first listing under what the Fairfield Inn has to offer.

well motels are the one's you see with rooms that you access from the outside. hotels are typically more fancier or more upkept and you acces them from actually inside of the building. hostel is the same thing as a hotel, just a different name that mainly used in europe. and an inn is something like a bed and breakfast.
