Might be a sign of depression. I know I've had some pretty wild emotional swings in the past. I mean, in the space of an hour, I'll go from laughing, to moody into downright pissed off.

The best way I've found to deal with it is to exercise, alone. Go for a jog. Also, avoiding alcohol is something I've had to do, because it puts me down in the dumps for days afterwards.

im kind of the same way, i don't really go into any raging moods, but ill go from happy to sad to being annoyed by everybody. this may not be the case for you, but i know my moods change based on weather im occupied or not. when im working, or out having a fun time with my friends ill be fine, than when i come home and find myself playing computer games by myself, i start getting moody (because i know being home playing games is not fun to me and makes me lonely) yet i still play games quite often, even though i know it makes things worse. i suggest finding a hobby. guitar, drawling... something along those lines. even cleaning or reorganizing my room keeps me straight. just food for thought.

geez, i do have an extremely wild mood swings... most of the people i know are aware of that....
it's totally disturbing though, cause ya know.. you're in a good mood- laughing out, having fun then all of a sudden-you become iritated, cranky.... then a moment later you feel sad, empty! it's like you have other personalities in you... hehe..

Occasionally. Hormones can do that. So can bipolar disorder. So can a brain injury.

If you are female, consider asking your doctor for birth control pills that help with PMS. My sister has bipolar and found that Yaz did help.

Are you a parent?
In a bad relationship?

If neithre of those apply to you then you could have Bi-Polar.
If one or both do apply to you then it's normal, so talk to your Doc.
