idol worship is a pagan heresy
Wicca is a religion found in various countries throughout the world. It was first popularised in 1954 by a retired British civil servant named Gerald Gardner. (Sounds a little bit like SCIENTOLOGY)

I additionally ensue to have faith that there are various paths to Wicca, and not all revolve around Gardarian ideals. yet another element i've got faith is that each and each author can prepare you something, even whether it is how undesirable they're, so do no longer discard any literature, whether it has "Fluffy" connotations. (i comprehend for a actuality i gets a lot of guff for those 2 statements, rather from the Gardarian followers!) for common awareness, Cunningham is possibly the final for novices. and prefer became into reported, do no longer provide out any own data on the information superhighway because of the fact which could prepare disastrous! definite, witchvox is a solid internet site, yet differently is to google: "Wiccan covens, San Jose, CA". which could prepare informative besides. i became into from CA, and that i admire the Midwest extra suitable. When it gets right down to it, people think Wicca is evil because they have been told it is by others that want to subjugate their opinions. If people would use the time to find out exactly what real Wicca is about then they would probably leave us alone and let us go about our own path knowing that we are not hurting them nor ourselves.

People often think that Wicca/witchcraft is evil because of misunderstandings, plain ignorance and the propaganda perpetuated by the Christian Church during the Middle Ages.
During the Middle Ages, there was a massive political and religious takeover of pagan Europe by the governmental arm of the medieval Church. In the fourteenth century as Christianity spread, the Christian Church targeted the pre-Christian Horned God which was popular among the peasant/country folk. The Horned God (represented by a stag--that's where the horns come in) was actually a life-affirming folk deity and nothing to do with the forces of evil. The worst that could be said about the Horned God was that He derived from an early fertility tradition that accept sex as natural and OK. The pagans (pagan simply meant peasant/county folk) also worshipped the Mother Goddess. But in the conversion to Christianity, it was an easy transition to venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary for the same feminine aspects which the Goddess represented (i.e. nurturing, motherhood, protection). No need to depose the Goddess just yet (that came later--during the Burning Times); but any male deity in patriarchal times threatened the Church. So, the Church officially labeled the Horned God as the Devil, or Satan. Satan was a medieval phenomenon. The Horned God had existed for thousands of years as a Fertility God (does go forth and multiply sound familiar?), but all of a sudden the poor dear (deer--pardon the pun) was the devil!
Another misunderstanding was Wiccans use of magic. But, Wiccans believe that you cannot use magic to help others or yourself if it harms another! Magic was used for the greater good. Wiccans/witches of the Middle Ages (and for thousands of years prior) were the healers, herbalists and midwives.
Another misunderstanding is the term white witch and black witch (are you a good witch or a bad witch?) Traditionally, no such terms existed. Yes, the "dark arts" existed and were practiced--but not by witches (Wiccans). Wiccans stay away from any use of negative magic with a ten-foot pole!
Once the Horned God was demonized, it was time for the Medieval Church to turn their attention to the very same people (women mostly) who had been their healers. Through torture and coercion, midwives and other healers were forced to confess that "the Devil made me do it." This confirmed to the Church that witches were indeed in cahoots with the Devil, and therefore were evil. See The Malleus Maleficarum (The Witch Hammer), published in 1486. Nine million good people (mostly women) burned. Now, who are the evil ones?
Sorry for such a long answer, and sorry for getting on my soap box, I mean broomstick, but this is an issue close to my heart. I have been a teacher for 20+ years and have felt the need to "hide" my choice of religious expression for fear of persecution--believe me, it still goes on.
As for your second question "how is (Wicca)different from . . . other religion(s) . . .? In a course I took on the comparative study of religion in college, I compared Wiccan spells to Christian (Catholic) novenas. Novenas were prayers (something spoken) x number of times for x number of days....and if you do this, then x will happen. Same thing. Do this, then this and that happens. Ex: Traditional Catholics believe that if you attend mass on the first Friday of the month for nine months in a row you WILL be greeted by the Virgin Mary upon your death.
For those who still think we are evil, I pray: "Goddess help them, for they know not what they do."

Ok first, lets discuss this fact: Religion, and the belief of gods is a primitive concept, any religion based on a deity is derived from much more primitive cultures than we have today.
The modern, and more evolved human, can rationalize and understand that these concepts do not hold weight, and are no longer needed in todays society.
Now with understanding that religion is a primitive concept at best, people who still hang on to any of these beliefs are of a more primitive nature, perhaps it is a primitive dominant gene, or some enzyme created in the brain that allows these primitive thought patterns.
and knowing what I know of theology, and religion in general, it is easy for me to see how a person of the christian faith would find somthing they dont understand as evil.
Primitive peoples of the worlds history have always viewed things they did not understand as acts of the gods, and later in history when actual religions were starting to arise, the people of these religous orders always viewed any teachings that contradicted THIER OWN, would view these other religions as evil, taboo, and heretical.

It depends on which people you are talking about. Christians arguably believe that their view of the world is correct. In the Christian worldview all religions cannot be true to conflicting truth claims. Subsequently, religions other than Christianity including Wicca are by default false. Clearly not a popular thought, but nonetheless held true by Christians. False religions are evil in the fact that they deceive those who follow them.

You basically answered the question yourself, "why do people think..." The answer is that that people who have the biggest problem with us don't bother to THINK! They follow the teachings of the bible and can't get it through their heads that that nonsense happened 5000 years ago and that modern witches may be totally different than those the Old Testament spoke about.
We are in the 21st Century and I think it is about time for people to start acting like open minded people and just go with it. We aren't asking Christians to give up their religion, but what does it hurt to just ignor us. We try to ignor you, but then you come in and make us fight for equal rights (VA Adoption of the Pentacle). Our people gave their lives for what the Constitution means and then you would deny them the symbol of their faith. Next time you look up at the flag just remember that there are 50 five pointed stars on it!

Because the church taught them to believe this!
In the early days of christianity, they found they could not convert enough people using honesty do they started up what equates to a smear campaign!
Examples.....Pagan tradition was that at the planting of every crop, they would go out at night with sticks, pitchforks, brooms, any thing with a stick for a handle, and jump around the fields. They did this because they believed they were showing the crops how high to grow. The church twisted this into they were flying on broomsticks and blighting the crops!
Also commonly used names for herbs were often very strange, like dragons blood, eye of newt, etc...
Many Many things have been done to prevent people turning away from christianity, back to their pagan roots including the introduction of satan to the bible. In fact there is no mention of him in the first half of the book!
People have closed minds and only see what they have been conditioned to see, and i suppose they think slandering us is a way to make themselves look better!
Blessed Be!

The quick answer is: Because it's not Christian and for many Christians for Christianity to be "right", all other religions have to be "evil" and "wrong".

There are many reasons believing these.Mostly christians I can say.One of the reasons are the symbols. The pentacle one. They believe Wiccans=Satanists with this symbol.Second the term of witch and everything that involves with Witchcraft.Witchcraft used to connecting with the Devil, back there,(burning years, etc.) and alot of people still believe it.Third, the Covens. They believe that wiccan rituals are similiar with the satanist ones.I don't want to offend Satanism.I respect it,as I do and the other religion, and I don't believe that there is a really bad religion.Every belief is respectable.

It depends on the people. Some find it easier to judge in advance. But not all. Fortunately, lots of people are ok about what others believe or don't believe.
