ANY dog is territorial....it's their nature.
I have 3 chis and 3 cats.....they get along great, but it's mainly because my Siamese (who is now 17 years old) has "trained" each of my chis (the oldest is 7 years old) on how to treat a cat ! He is very calm and patient with the dogs and they've learned not to chase cats and to be nice to "their" kitties. I have a 1 year old neutered male cat who was raised with the chis....this cat showed up as a baby in my backyard so I kept him ! He is NOT declawed yet has never stratched one of the chis. They play together all the time and everyone is gentle with each other. I don't know what it's like to bring a chi into a household where the cats don't know about dogs. You could try adopting a chi from petfinder or a rescue group.....I do foster care for a chi rescue and many of my fosters go to homes with cats because they are "cat-friendly" after living with our family.

I have a friend that had a Chihuahua and then a few years later got a Doberman Pinscher and that Doberman lived in fear of that Chihuahua. A chihuahua is about the only breed of dog I know that will stand up to a cat. Chihuahua is also the meanest breed of dog - I'd sooner take my chances with a pit bull than a chihuahua.

I personally do not like Chihuahuas. Just not my kind of animal at all. A family member that lives with us has one. It barks constantly and at everything. Even if it sees me open the pantry door, it yaps crazily. It yaps insanely when any door opens or closes in the house regardless of if it sees who is coming or going. Makes the cats in the household very jumpy and stressed. 2+ years and the dog still goes crazy over any noise. It barks and chases the cats, stressing them out. A good part of my dislike is the fact that the owner won't teach the dog any manners. Always get the martyr act and anger when I speak up about the problem. Sorry, but it's my house and I'd like some peace and quiet!!! If you get one, you will need to supervise things until the cats accept it, pretty much as you would have to supervise any newcomer to the established household. Be sure you do not fall prey to the newcomer's charms and ignore/brush off the established cats. They are going to need some reassurance or jealousy is going to be a problem.

Chihuahuas are territorial with other dogs, with other people, and with cats. My chihuahuas dont dislike cats and are pretty tolerant of cats. However, I am more affectionate with my chihuahuas than with the cat. I am a dog person

well i have a chihuahua and a cat and they get along fine. now, im not saying that all cats and chihuahuas will get along perfectly, but you should see how they react around each other. at first they were both pretty uneasy but eventually they both got used to each other and my chihuahua always playfully annoys my kitty by lighty biting her ear, trying to get my cat to chase her... however my cat is so fat and lazy that she just sits there and occasionally swats at her. lmao

can't tell you about all chihuahuas but mine likes my cat
he doesn't like strange cats, it took him a while to get used to the new cat ( we already had 1 cat when we got him) but he was never really nasty about it.
He doesn't like strange dogs either but he got along fine with our shih tzu ( who passed away a couple of years ago of old age)
and he doesn't get nasty with other dogs at the vets office.

Mine is OK, she plays with the cats, the cats chase her she chases them. She will chase a few cats at my moms but if the cat stops lol she runs on by like she wasn't chasing them anyways.

If you get it as a puppy and raise it with the cats you should be OK. Check out this site:
