It all depends on your prior skills and what you enjoy doing. I retired at 55 nd had alot of home renovation experience, so I took on odd jobs to make a few extra bucks. I'm now 73, and still working. ( I tell everyone I'm going to die with a hammer in my hand. ha ha)

The quickest way to the grave is an idle mind and body. Do something, don't just sit there. lol

Although I am not ready for retirement I have several friends who were in a position to take early retirement. Several of these friends decided to start a second career. They chose opportunities in fields close to their previous job. For example, a retired police officer is now a vice president w a security firm that deals with security and security procedures for high rise buildings in Los Angeles. Another friend is a retired supervisor for the State Fire Marshall. He will work about six months a year for FEMA.
The other option is to decide what would you have done with your life if you hadn't worked at your job...and see what is available. Even if the type of work you did is not related to this other career option, you have a life time of experience...go for it. Best of Luck and enjoy your retirement.

Have you considered becoming an inspector, conducting simple site inspections in your area. They take about 10-15 minutes and can earn anywhere from 15-45 dollars per inspection. All you need is a valid e-mail address, digital camera, access to internet and possibly a fax machine. Most companies will explain or train you on what needs to be done. However you must be realiable and able to meet certain deadlines. The best part about it is you get to decide which ones you want to take based on your schedule.

When my father retired, he started doing gardening. Some of my former teachers went into real estate or professional tutoring. Some former business colleagues who are now retired are doing consulting work.

You would be wise to meet with an employment counsellor who can provide you with an interest and aptitude test. If you are going to continue working, you may as well be doing what you enjoy.

Good luck.

My wife and I have a home based business where we provide people who dont have insurance like contractors, service industry employees, small business employees, college students, and sales people a card that provides them with significantly discounted rates on dental, medical, chiropractic, perscriptions, and optical care. They can use it at several big names stores, like Target, Sears, JC Penny's, Lens Crafters, etc. There is also a list of doctors, dentists, etc all over the country who honor the card. I think they have over 22,000 card holders so far and the business is legitimate and the company has agreements and is accredited to sell them. They have been in business for over 15 years and its really easy to do.

The investment is next to nothing. We started with a computer, internet, and a really cool lady who helps us when we need it.

The pay is awesome. The business almost runs itself. And most important, we dont have to be embarrassed around our friends doing it.

If you are interested, drop us an email and we can give your more info....but it really is easy!

Take care

Jason

What do you like to do? There are plenty of positions in Non- Profit Organizations whether in the Arts or Healthcare. They need all the additional help they can get and are far more civil to people in the second phase of their lives.

Good Luck!
