Maria: Ipod should be careful of how she states things. If that wasn't an insult ( and people send many insults on here ) I feel I should be given the apology..

Are you the Yahoo police dept ?

They are dead, on the other hand, if you say you are late, it takes on an entirely different meaning,

If it's used before the name, it typically means they're dead. If it's used after the name, it is usually more literal. My wife is late (she's not here, she is running behind). Oddly though, I just got a note on Yahoo Personals from someone who said his wife is late and I think he meant dead - otherwise he hopefully wouldn't be on Personals...

Yes, it does mean that person is deceased. By the way, Ipod Lady wasn't calling you stupid. She thought the term meant "You're stupid or slow". It wasn't necessary to insult her.

It means that the person they are referring to is dead. It is considered a less harsh term. Imagine someone saying, "My dead husband used to enjoy fishing. "

"Late" is a polite term meaning "dead". It sounds much more pleasant to say "The late George Burns" than "Dead George", doesn't it?

It means dead, like "he is my dead husband."
When women use it in the first person, it means she is pregnant.
