My brother actually did a science project on this! Peroxide did a good job whitening teeth, but peroxide mixed with baking soda did the best. Neither will have any harmful side effects unless you swallow mass amounts of it.

I do not believe the people that say hydrogen peroxide (H202) and baking soda work. For starters there is aboslutely NO scientific data that suggests H202 and baking soda do anything other than provide a different kind of taste. They have not been clinically found to do anything. Yet you get these people who through anecdotal evidence suggest that they do.
Secondly, the Crest White Strips and dental bleaching that you do not want to speak of, work because they hold 10-16% hydrogen or carbamide peroxide in a gel form against your teeth for at least 4 hours a day for the better part of 2 weeks. And yet, people will tell you that a dilute concentration of peroxide in a toothpaste that you brush with for 2 minutes at the most will have an effect?? I just don't think these methods are in the same ball park.
Maybe brushing with H2O2 and baking soda removes some plaque and stain and in that way they do whiten your teeth, but nothing like the strips or gels and trays.
Rinsing your mouth with more concentrated H2O2 is not good for your gums. Your gums are very thin and very sensitve. You would be bathing them and your teeth for that matter in a weak acid. And H2O2 is cytotoxic, so it likes to kill living cells, like your gums. And it tastes gross.
I'll bet if I lined up patients who use baking soda and peroxide toothpastes next to people who rinse with H202 next to people who use strip and bleaching kits it would be very obvious who had the whitest teeth!

Yes you can use hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. It works to some degree but I would not use it for a long period of time because it can do damage to your gums. I would try using baking soda. People have been known to use baking soda to whiten their teeth.

Yes, people are known to use peroxide to clean/whiten their teeth. Does it work? Not as good as the other methods you don't want people to mention.

Yeah. I have tried rinsing my mouth with it like mouthwash (besides the gargling part). And it tastes disgusting. I rather not. But if you want white teeth go for it. :)

Yes...it does whiten teeth however when used too frequently, it can cause sensitivity.
